Had this TT with us for the following work:
Thermostat and housing replacement
Flush and bleed cooling system
Replace tie rods and rack ends
Replace rear brake pads

Car arrived on Friday afternoon. Disconnect the battery and let it cool down for a few hrs with the bonnet open and a fan placed in front of it .

Once it was cold, we put the car up on the lift and drain the cooling system.

With all the coolant removed , we started stripping to get to the thermostat housing . Had to remove the alternator , tensioner pulley and some other bits and bobs

And then we got access to remove the thermostat housing and replace it .

Filled up with coolant and distilled water mix

Left the vehicle overnight to check for any leaks . No leaks so we start assembling using the factory instructions and torque specs .

We started the car, bled the cooling system, allowed it to heat up to operating temps and cool down. Then the next day when the car was cool again, the coolant level was double checked and we move onto the rest.

Next we start with the steering .

Removed the old rack end and tie rod assembly

Assembling the new tie rod and rack end . Trying to keep the same length as the old ones. But not tightening it fully as it needs to be done and locked on the alignment bay.

We also found this backer cable tied cos someone who previously worked on this vehicle elsewhere lost the bolt .

So I put a new bolt there to make it look nice again.

Lastly since I was running out of time we didn’t get any pics but we sprayed the new pads with anti squeal spray and fitted them.

Brakes done and anti seize applied to the hubs to help the rims from sticking to the hub .

Put the battery on charge as it was low

Ran VAGcom to clear any errors that was saved on the ecu.

Took the car for a short test drive , on the way back the owner arrived so we fit the lower panels do some final checks and he collected the vehicle.

Very impressive workmanship, better than many dealerships out there.

What online tool do you use to reference the correct torque specs? I would image this database would need to include a big array of different cars.
