One of my really good customers sent his friend to me to get the rear brake pads and sensor changed out on his BMW X3 as the brake warning has come on . The vehicle only has 68k kms on the clock and still very clean.
Get it to the lift and begin
Wheels off
Old pads could have still done more mileage before they caused damage to the disks
Disconnect the electric park brake and remove the pads
New pads ready for anti squeal spray.
Apply Thread lock on caliper bolts
Old vs new sensor
New pads fitted
Using factory instructions to ensure everythibg is perfect and every bolt gets torqued to spec .
We also ran diagnostics just to ensure everything was ok but we picked up some errors.
After diagnostics we able to clear all the errors and get all modules green on the diagnostic tree
Owner was very pleased when he collected his vehicle .

Re: F25 X3 2.0d
Good work,
I see some pads have a kind of a sticky residue on the back which melts and bonds to the caliper when hot. This stops it from squeaking.
Never tried the spray...just copper slip which wasnt very effective

Re: F25 X3 2.0d
Thanks Bud, I haven't yet fitted those pads with the sticky residue so i am not sure how they compare..
I use either the copper compound or Anti squeal spray whichever is available when i'm doing the work and so far haven't had any issues on my own vehicles or customers complaining so i continue to use it...
to put into perspective, I replaced my M Coupe Brake pads last year for hillclimb and used Copper Compound there.. more than a year later, I drove the car this morning and still no squeaks or funny sounds... (I did however remove the discs as well when changing the pads, cleaned everything with brake cleaner and compressed air and then fitted everything back with new pads and copper compound)
