Racer's Edge Cash Policy
I'd like to approach this as constructively as possible, open up a dialogue around this, as I am sure that many customers have experienced this and not returned back to your store because of it, and have had questions as to why.
A couple of weeks i was in your store looking to buy a pair of speakers to fit in a car I was selling. I was happy with a pair of Pioneer mids and made my way to the tllpoint. The guy lounging behind the PC asked how I am paying and I said cheque card as i rarely carry cash. He said I could only purchase the speakers with cash. I even asked if I could pay a higher price to swipe. I know this is common practice with your competitors down the road where they pass on the supposed transaction costs to the customers (this in itself is a dodgy practice). Needless to say I left the items where I was and walked out. Haven't been back since.
Now, why is it that some items in the store are for cash only purchase, some you can buy by card at a higher price. Are there some sort of savings being passed onto the customer by paying cash. I can't imagine it being the vendor card transaction costs as those are a tiny percentage of a transaction and much less than the difference between the cash and card prices i have come across.
With my audit and accounting background, I can't help but asked if output VAT is being declared on the "cash only" sales. Is the saving to the cash customer as a result of the VAT saving?
Please could you provide some insight, as this is an issue i have pondered over many a time as a customer of not only your store, but others in the industry with similar practices.

Re: Racer's Edge Cash Policy
Interesting question there. Very curious as to see the responses...
Also as a customer, I exercise the same practice by preferring to swipe and avoid carrying large amounts of cash.

I am doubtful if there will be a response. The guys in-store were not very forthcoming when I asked the question.

Re: Racer's Edge Cash Policy
Well cards are safer to have in possession, rather than being killed for a lousy R20. Everybody i know including myself prefer to swipe.
If Mitch doesnt mind i would like to add, (also if this is not allowed then the mods can delete my post) but i also had a bad experience with The Racers Edge (Umgeni Rd, Dbn) and i will never support this store again.
If u are selling garbage then state that "this product is chinese and will most likely break when installing, and there are no refunds or exchanges" rather than the staff members talking to u in an inappropriate manner.

Re: Racer's Edge Cash Policy
I used to buy some stuff from them back in my ricer days before owning VW. A lot of their stuff is shoddy quality and along ricer lines so I wouldn't go in unless I am looking for something like sound equipment. I wouldn't even consider them now though based on dodgy policies and arrogant staff.

Re: Racer's Edge Cash Policy
Mitch I'm with you on this from a financial background.
The ONLY reason I can see why any business would prefer a cash sale is to avoid VAT and even income tax. Quite easy to jippo the POS and accounting system to make a SALE transaction disappear and even write off the stock. Not so easy if the transaction leaves a paper trail such as going through a bank account.
I'd like the Vendor to give their side of the story. Otherwise I'd suggest: https://secure.sarsefiling.co.za/AdHocCaseSourcing

At another store (can't comment on RE as i have not been allowed to buy there recently), they will process the card transactions through POS system, and give you a hand written receipt from a receipt book for cash purchases.
WIthout feedback people are going to jump to their own conclusions...
