Mk5 gti Factory radio plugs (Wanted)

Post by theunis.visser »

Hi all

I recently purchased a 2007 Mk5 Golf gti. It came with a single din Sony headunit witch is tied into a Parot bluetooth handsfree kit.

I opened up the dash today to see what goes on behind the radio as I am in the process of deciding on a double din unit to replace the Sony/Parot setup as well as adding rear camera and navigation.

To my horror, most of the factory plugs have been hacked off and replaced with other iso type plugs. Luckily the arial plugs were left alone!

Now here is the questions:

Would it be possible to install the double din (which should have been a straight forward plug and play job, with this mess.

Would these plugs be available locally or do I go scrapyard hunting?

I appreciate all feedback greatly.

My suggestion would simply be to connect the new head unit to the hacked off wiring. It should be about 8 cables for speakers, 3 for power and maybe 2 or 3 more. It is actually a very simple straight forward job.

Thanks for the reply.

My main concern is the steering wheel controls.

I am not sure of their colour scheme in that spaghetti mess.

I suppose if I can lay my hands on a wiring diagram I could figure it out.

I don't think that will create problems for you. I agree, get a diagram, or else, buy everything you need, and take it to a proper installer, it's going to take him only 20min to install it. Maybe pull the camera's wires through to the radio mount section before hand, that going to save you alot in pricing for installation.

Please keep us posted bud. And oh ya, I know someone that will take the Parrot system of your hand.

Casper

You maybe have a model number?

Only headunit I could find around 5k is one sold by Autostyle that ticks all my boxes including satnav and reverse camera and also looks more stock and less Chinese.Image

I had a unit from VW/Toyota touch screens fitted to my car. Looks oem and was plug and play to save my warranty.
Has satnav, dvd, mp3, usb, aux and memory car slots with reverse camera.

Think i paid R4800.

Check it out in my thread. Their service was great and the unit woks beautifully

Casperjjordaan I stripped out the Parot kit. It is all there and in working order albeit the left button cover on the control unit. Seems a general thing with these as I have read of lots of complaints about these button covers online. Still interested?

After lots of research I settled on the Kenwood ddx418btm it has seperate gps receiver and steering wheel controls. It can handle front and rear camera. Can link 5 android devices for music and 2 android phones concurrently for calls. Has a 13 band equaliser and time alignment program. I used a carav 8-009 kit to fit it as the other kits didnt look right with the Kenwood. It's own faceplate is also an odd shape.Image
