RCA leads - advise/feedback

Post by Gti3 »

Hi guys

Has anyone used the below RCA leads and can you recommend them. It is to be installed in An Amarok from Pioneer AVH-205BT head unit to Star Sound 4 channel Amplifier. 1 set will be for front stage i.e. Kicker 6.75 inch Splits and the other set will be for the subwoofer i.e. Kicker 8inch 2ohm SVC

This is the lead i'm looking at :

If you have any other suggestions around the same price that will be welcomed as well.

Stinger is quite a big brand in the USA. Another big one is Phoenix Gold.

Just buy it man. It will work.

This bothers me. They mention "Audiophile grade performance" IF anybody here is in to SQ, whether it is at home or in car, then they wil ltell you otherwise. Even if it was, your amp would be the downgrade. So buy it and use it. Its good enough.

I think you can get cheaper one's from the flee market that will do the job.

lol

@ Op...good set comes with a premium but will be worth it.

I once cut up and a "cheap" set of RCA's and found that in order to keep cost down , they'd use a single 50% copper strand which was rolled around single strand of cotton, end to end.

While this may work , It's affects quality sound and resistance , instead of getting the full pre-out voltage from HU to amp , had a loss of voltage resulting having to turn the gain on the amp higher and meant distorting.

Thats one issue , the other was crappy RCA terminals that can't make a secure connection on the HU/amps output/inputs.

Been a while since I shopped for rcas, but those will be fine. A 5m length sounds like overkill for an amarok though. You will probably find better 3m rcas for the same price.

The thickness of the conductor has little effect on the performance of the cable. Most amps have an input impedance around 15kohm. A 5v preout will result in a 0.00033A current, effects of resistance is negligible.
Capacitance of the cable is the only real parameter that affects the sound.

What you pay for in a good rca is the connectors and multiple layers of shielding.

I am using the StarSound amp for now as it was given time for free. I will change the amp in time, however I don't want to have to buy RCAs again and have to route them again. On the other hand, I also dont want to spend 1k on RCA leads as there comes a point where the difference/value/benefit cannot be told to the average ear. I just need something that is quality, that plays clear and is long lasting.
