Choosing replacement speakers for Amarok - help please

Post by Gti3 »

Hi guys

I recently upgraded the Amarok stocks head unit to a Pionerer Avh-205bt and now I need to upgrade the speakers as the stock ones seem shot. I have a star sound 4 channel 2500w which I I tend using to drive the speakers. I'm assuming this amp is at least 40w RMS if not a little more.

So I was looking at split set for the front doors and coxials for the rear doors. The speakers I came across so far are Pioneer https://www.soundmatch.co.za/Mobi/Pages ... er-system and then JBL https://www.soundmatch.co.za/mobi/pages ... -speakers

I am looking for clear sound with a bit of volume. I'd like to be able to hear most of the instruments being played but not necessarily audiophile grade.

Can anyone suggest between the above two or make any other suggestions? I have not heard any of these speakers play.

Cant comment as i have never heard either of those.

Splits are very subjective. What sounds good to me might sound crappy to you. Listen to as many sets as you can and take it from there.

Good luck and happy listening.

What the 1 Eyed dude said.

When I replaced the front door speakers in the Caddy, I listened to 8 sets of splits at one sound shop, then 3 sets at another shop before deciding.
It is all very subjective. It depends on your ears, not someone elses ears.

Thanks Guys

I think ive made a rushed decision and bought a set of Kicker 6.75 components for R1400. These things play very clear but cant get any bass out of them, and the tweeters are overpowering at higher volumes....

Sound deaden the doors properly.
Midbass in the Caddy's, Amarok's, Tiguan's etc is crap with no sound deadening.

When I did the audio in the Caddy, the front doors were done first and the new splits sounded crap until I did the sound deadening.
Midbass from the splits is now amazing.

Those Kicker splits are very good. Proper mounting on MDF mounting rings and sound deadening will have a massive effect on how they sound

Thanks Jetta 2

I did do sound deadening on the door skin as well as covered the huge mechanism access hole on the inside with sound deadening. I made MD rings, siliconed and screwed them when mounting and covered then in sound deadening material as well.

Maybe i need to get someone to tune them properly. Th eonly thing i have to compare to now is the OEM sound in My golf 7 which has so much more deeper bass than these splits. Perhaps my expectation is the problem lol...

Ok so ive played around with the settings and have managed to get them sounding good. They play very very clear as mentioned before and have tuned them to play the higher range bass. Will be adding in an 8inch sub to take care of the lows soon. Eish that sub enclosure is going to be a mission in the amarok....

Glad you got it sorted.

I have a Kicker 8 inch sub in the Caddy (Comp RT with passive radiator, https://extremeelectronics.ca/products/ ... e-radiator) and it blasts low and loud. The front splits and sub are running off a Kicker 300.4 amp and it sound beautiful.

For now i'm using the amp that was donated to me - its a Star Sound. I'll definitely look into upgrading to the Kicker 300.4 but let me hear how it plays with what i currently have 1st. I had to go with the 8 inch CompS. Its a full size sub but has a slightly shallow mounting depth - its SVC and 2ohms so hoping to be able to extract more out of the amp that way.
