2016 GTI Composition Media Infotainment Software update

Post by Charlve »

Good Day Fellow VW owners

I bought a 2016 Golf GTI (PA) and got it about two days ago. (Absolutely love the vehicle).

I am trying to update my infotainment systems software.

Details:

Composition Media
Part Number: 3q0035819a
Installed SW MU version: 0627

I have read that you can have it updated at certain VW Dealerships. But most would not be able to assist.
I wanted to swap out the Radio but as the Vehicle is still under warranty, I am worried that a change like that would void it,
VW wanted to charge me 47K for the upgrade.

Has anyone successfully been able to update the software ?

Thank Guys

Hi Neuk

Thank you for your reply.

Better Performance or possibly some extra features.
I always try and keep firmware up to date on my devices.

There are not many additional features that I know off that happen with SW updates.
The big changes came when VW changed from MIB1 to MIB2 units.

Which unit do you have?

MIB2 has car play, performance monitor, think blue bs. Other than that, not much difference over MIB1 that i can think off.

Hi Madracer21

Thank you for your reply.

I think I have the MIB1 as I do not have car play and I also do not have the performance monitor.
I do have the think blue.

Maybe the update just is not worth the effort ?

Would have really liked to get some of those features.

I have gotten quotes for a OEM Headunit for the Golf 7.

I just don't want to lose the default car features that the standard unit has.

I will wait a while and probably go with that at a later stage.

Thank you for the info, this has been very helpful to me as I am still learning.

I understand, I do the same with my phone, tablet, etc. and would think that when a car goes in for a service that all software is updated accordingly.

Car Play is not automatically activated on all MIB2 units and the Performance Monitor is only available in Clubsport S' locally.

Thanks Neuk

I was looking for a GTI with the Media Package, but just could not find one with low KM's on it.
I think my problem is that I look at GTI's that are in other countries and go why can't mine do that.

Still best decision I have made in a long time absolutely love the car.

Thank you for all the input guys, great to be part of the community.

Correct, carplay is an optional extra.
I have the performance monitor in my CS.
