Sounds right my mirrorlink was R1200 option fitted at factory(activated)

R1200 for it to be activated? It was most likely already fitted as part of Composition Media?
Comp media is R2700 option and my polo came with mirrorlink activated so paid the R1200

So R3700 in total then?

Cool. What it means though, is that they should have just charged you that from the start. It's like buying an HD TV but you can only use the HD after paying to have it activated.

Yes but because mirrorlink is a separate option it was split , think dealers will charge more for the code after sales

I thought MirrorLink was part of AppConnect? I think it is called AppConnect or CarConnect or something?

Well yes and no , 2016 spec has app connect with all three (apple , android auto and mirrorlink )

2014/2015 has only mirrorlink so works with all the supported phones has some features the others dont have but misses some unique features that only the individual software has.

So do you need to have MirrorLink activated if you have AppConnect? Is there a dependency between them?

I am going to stop using CarPlay for a few days and simply connect my iPhone via Bluetooth and see how it goes. From the little I have used an iPhone via Bluetooth in a VAG car versus using my iPhone via CarPlay in my R, I am not sure the R3500 i worth it for CarPlay if you don't have access to it already.

I've used Google Play Music via Bluetooth in my car for a bit. Works well. Skip tracks and whatnot with the controls on the steering wheel, which I didn't expect to work.

It is indeed. You can either stream from the interwebs, or in my case: download/cache your playlist or albums on the phone for offline playing. I'm using Android, so I'm not sure what the availability and features on iPhones are like.

I think they still have the 30 day trial going on. https://play.google.com/store

I think R3500 is worth it if you basically get navigation on your radio instead of forking out R20 000... but it should be standard from the factory just like BMW and Mercedes and Porsche.

Except it's not just R3500. It's also the price of the phone... :geek:

I use Waze which is not available via CarPlay so it wouldn't be worth it for me.

You should be able to stream music via BT.
