Sound options for my custom build

Hey guys

So i decided to build a custom box in my Polo 6R GTI. Decided to use the space under the floorboard.
I built a box the same size as the jack/tools container:

Image

That fits neatly under the false floor i built:

The space is quite limited on both depth and width so was thinking of going with 2 8inch subs. The depth is only 10.5 CM internal. 12CM if you count the top MDF board also. What sort of 8Inch subs would be good in this type of enclosure? Anybody in JHB that can assist with supplying that sort of sound? This will all be covered in OEM looking fabric and i migth fill the box with some sort of Polyfill to fool the subs into thinking they are in a bigger box.

Take some measurements and determine whats the volume of that enclosure.
Also what is your budget for the subs?

Looking good man, but what about the sub? This is a detail that ive done taking the spare wheel into account, havnt built it yet but spent some time measuring so that the spare could be removed with the sub in place.

I think slicing the existing velt to allow the spare wheel cover to lift should be sufficient.

Tell me your thoughts?

That looks awesome, just remember that if you do get a flat there must be enough space for your full size wheel to go back in the boot. Otherwise if you can always put your seats down and put it on top.

I spoke to a guy at Rivonia car sound, he took my measurements and worked out 1 8inch JBL with a port will be best for the box. So now i need to go buy some 3inch PVC pipe and put that at the bottom of the box facing to the right. The port needs to be 30CM long so i will make a bend in the port to fit. Then im going to use a 4channel Pioneer digital. I might just upgrade the door speakers later on.

What you guys think? I will work out the volume again and post here.

@Killerwatt the enclosure is 13.39 Liters.

I just ran a quick simulation and i would not build that ported box. Huge peak in the response and will likely sound sloppy. Imo i would keep it sealed and put in 2 8's with some pollyfill. Otherwise look for a flat 10 that would be happy in there.

Hmmm, i hate it when you get two professional opinions about something and then you have no idea which one is right :-P

Maybe i will install the one 8inch, leave it sealed and see how it sounds. then maybe put the second in also with some polyfill.

Yeah one in a sealed box will be fine. No polly though as the box is a bit oversized for the gto 8.

DD LE308. Add a Vibe fastplug and it's quick to remove the sub when you need access to spare wheel, doesn't use alot of bootspace (even less space if you position it with the sub facing up because that makes it narrower), and it bangs yet is also musical...

I might be :!offtopic:
But it's another option for the guys I guess

Custom is always better as its unique and fine-tuned to your needs. Like for me I wouldnt want to have to remove the sub box everytime i need to get to the spare, especially if its under crappy circumstances. Also to have it custom and bolted down is less of an easy steal if ever that does happen. Just my opinion, each to his own i guess.

There should be plenty space to fit the normal tire as my spare is quite similar in size to my normal tires, bigger than a normal spare.

Am thinking of adding a compartment similar in size to your box under the sub for the amp enclosure, will just need to fine tune the size and vents for airflow.

Keep us posted with your build and keep posting some pictures!

This is what I did in my 9N:

I dont have to remove anything to get to the spare. I also don't need a lot of boot space so it works fine for me!

I am thinking of doing the same but instead use a smaller 6.5 inch sub as is do not need crazy bass. it must just be there to have a balanced system (i had an audi before with a smiliar sub from the factory and its pretty decent). i will see how far it goes tho.. still in the planning stages at the moment.

saw this on the net: they are built by Uber stealth for the golf 6. they have it so nice overseas..

Yeah just an 8inch DVC. The amp is underneath the floor on the right hand side. I mounted it upside down above the spare wheel.

The sub cover is actaully for a Kicker 10 inch but mounted that onto the floor board. So when you lift the floor the cover goes with it.

Will take a pic a little later of the amp install. Sound wise, its quite good in my opinion, much better than i thought it was going to turn out. After a week i did throw some polyester in the sealed box and it gave it a much deeper sound.
