Re: Sound Deadening Material

Post by Kari Mofokeng »

Hi guys, I know this is an old topic but I'm in the dark here, in need of help. I'm looking to cover my car (citi golf), the floor, boot compartment & all four doors. I don't know which brand to use & how much quantity I would need. keep in mind that I'm a student & on a budget (but looking for quality products).

@ Kari
First question, what would be the reason for the use or application of the material.
secondly what would you like to achieve from the sort of application.
Are you looking at the products from a comfort point of view or sound industry relation.

STP is a well know brand within the market that i'm only familiar with given various products they supply.
Hopefully there are other guys on the forum that can give an insight on the other brands.

Keep in mind that STP has different materials for different applications.
Given you a student think carefully of what you want to achieve.

Majority of there products are insulation, sound deadening, rust inhibiting etc.

Please have a look at their website http://vino167.wixsite.com/ananzitech

They have information on the products and what they can be used for.

Also depending on your application i would say you looking at +- 5 boxers to complete your car
once again depends on what you want to achieve.

Hope this helps and i did not confuse you even more

@DeanGP, Thanks. I want to install a sound system, but I want do it the right way- no short cuts. I also want to kill the road noise at that, because currently when I'm on a long distance drive all I hear is the noise made by the car. I can hardly hear my stereo play. It's really irritating. So what I ultimately want to achieve is a quiet car on the road whereby I can clearly hear my music play.

@kari, Given what you want to achieve not only from sound point of view but also from a comfort point of view
I personally would recommend STP.
For your type of application
you looking at 3 Boxers I silver for (boot lid, doors, roof) help for insulation and deadening of external road noise.
looking at 2 boxers Viso mat ( floor of the boot as well as the floor of the car) additional rust inhibitor as well.
If any is left over do the fire wall to reduce amount of engine heat coming in to the cabin.
enhance your door speakers use STP crystal helps for cleaner mid range.
Also its a golf so rattling will be there so use BTP on panels that are loose this will eliminate the plastic to metal rattling.

Preparation is key, clean before applying and take your time.
More time you put in the better the results.

Thanks guys, I was looking at these two sites yesterday.

https://www.secondskin.co.za/content/13 ... aden-a-car
http://www.dynamatsa.co.za/

They sell the tools and products so it shouldn't be too hard to get the stuff I need and then just get stuck in when I am ready.
Busy tidying up the engine bay atm so that I can drop the engine and gearbox in once I've cleaned them up.
