Feeler or thoughts for fmic kits for mk5/6

Postby MiggzFSU » Mon Apr 13, 2015 3:23 pm

Hey guys

Been thinking for a while now, would there be a market in making fmic for the mk5/6?

options would be a duel cooler setup: so using the stock cooler as well as a straight cooler up front being a little more expensive as there needs to be special pipes made to have both.

or

a big front mount cooler and you can either leave the stock cooler there or take it out

just some thoughts

OOO OOOOOO oOooooo!!!!! Me me me!!!!

Twincooler setups are available currently, and have been proven to work. However, a properly built true FMIC will be epic! Like ATP's, Neuspeeds and Garrets. Something good for 600 bhp and also have a negligible pressure drop

Make it, I shall buy... even if it's only me  . Take precaution in fin density and strength (I'm sure you know this though). FMIC's get all the bashing... so nice tightly packed stuff will be winning

Personally I think twin coolers serve no benefit over a decent front mount cooler.

My car generally runs at 3/4 deg above ambient while moving, and its also sucking in hot air in the bay with the neuspeed fmic
I would love to see a twin cooler setup get below that, Generally twin setups run 5-7 deg above ambient, i cant imagine you'll get any lower than that anyway without running meth

Adding extra pipes and extra joins just create more weak points for boost leaks imo

Should you stick to one FMIC you might have to look at brackets to put in place of the stock cooler or block off's. Not everyone will want to leave it in place

Neuspeed's units are one of the best coolers for our cars, it has been proven. Which is why I'm also a big fan of single front mounts. The stock cooler is a paperweight, and brackets for it would be a bonus but not something critical. Silicon block offs would be nice

It need not be big. I think the guys got 7 inches tall without cutting. Precision Turbo has some proper ones as well you can mock up against. Cutting crash bar is out in my book.

FYI

The neuspeed cooler core is 595w x 165h x 76d, So its not massive.

I think some people forget that bigger is not always better, cooler core that is blocked by crash bar and bumper is ineffective for proper cooling.

The quality of the core used also has a huge impact on the cooling ability
