VW 1800 HV Build

Post by ssshannah »

Hi guys

Disclaimer: I'm am not a mechanic. I do not know everything. Please lets educate each other.

I have recently bored my HV 1800 block from 20 thou to 40 thou because the cylinders weren't even. There isn't an increase in power whatsoever but im okay with that, my problem is that the engine is not rev happy. it makes good power but seem to be sluggish i mean just reving the car from 1000 revs to 3000 takes a while and its always been like this. and ive checked videos on youtube of other 1800 carbs the revs go up fairly quickly compared to mine. is there anything i should look into?

As others state, timing to be checked.

I would also look into other areas like carb and its jetting. You provide limited information on rest of you engine and just saying HV motor, assuming all other engine part are still from original HV motor.

Taking that into account the HV motor was only a 70Kw motor in original std form.

If your aim is to get more from this motor, you will need to look at a different carb or carbs, camshaft, branch and exhaust system.
