VWCSA - Swap Meet

Post by J0NN0 »

Good day VW Club of South Africa!

Due to the Committee’s decision to delay all performance events to 2022, we have decided that the remainder of 2021 will be filled with social - but socially distanced - events.

For our September event, we decided to go with something new to the club, and here it is:

VWCSA's inaugural Swap Meet!

Bring a table/blanket and all those unused parts you have laying about in your garage and let's try to find those hidden gems and hoarded parts a happy new home. Sell to or barter with other sellers on the day and let's make this one for the books. You may find something you've always wanted, you may free up some garage space, and most importantly, you'll get to meet a bunch of like-minded enthusiasts who, just like you and I, love finding and talking about hidden automotive treasures.

Euro Butchery will be present on the day with their fantastic wors rolls and sundries.

Ts&Cs:

Masks are mandatory, whether you have been fully vaccinated or not.
Please note that stands will be offered for FREE to VWCSA members ONLY.
Non-members will be charged R100 for stands, but entry is free for those who wish to only browse or buy. If you're not yet a member, sign-ups on the day will still qualify you for a free stand. Bookings not necessary, just show up

Only secondhand/pre-owned VW, Audi, SEAT, Porsche, etc. parts (or VAG-compatible parts) may be sold on the day!
Vendors may contact advertising@vwclub.co.za for stalls (these will qualify to sell new parts, or anything else).
Queries may also be directed to advertising@vwclub.co.za

Date: Saturday, 25 September 2021

Time: 08h30 – 13h00

Where: Garage 72, 13 Samantha St, Strydompark, Randburg

Facebook Event: https://fb.me/e/PTcBBINz

So come view the Volkswagen Club’s new official clubhouse and maybe find that little trinket you've been searching eBay for, and say hi to our awesome hosts for the day: Garage72 and Solid Café (thanks guys!)

See you there! :hi:

The Volkswagen Club of SA hosted its very first swap meet this past Saturday with an epic turnout at a stunning venue.

A number of members came and showed off their hidden gems while our most faithful club sponsor, Delarey Racing Developments, drew the most attention with Wikus' awesome replacement parts.
The event saw amazing cars pulling in to see what was up, with the likes of a Mk1 Cabrio left-hand-drive and the new Mk8 GTI grabbing the focus of everyone’s Instagram lens.

Unfortunately, it was more of a park-off than the planned Swap Meet. This could be attributed to the lack of knowledge as to what a swap meet is, too many other events occurring at the same time, a long weekend, or perhaps even the wrong area of Gauteng being chosen for our first such event. Whatever the reason, we still had a great day with fellow enthusiasts.

As the committee, we feel this event has so much potential which is why we have decided to announce that we will host another swap meet in five months (February 2022) with the hope that this could become an annual or even biannual event for the VWCSA. So, start collecting those parts and join in the fun for next year, just before the biggest VW event, CampFest. Even our honorary club member from across the pond, Jamie Orr of Orchid Euro and Performance VW, recognizes the value of an event like this (similar meets are already MASSIVELY popular in the U.S. and the U.K.) and was pleading on social media for VW lovers to attend the event virtually to see how cool it can be. This is where you find showstopping rare parts that will never be advertised on social media, and even if you don’t find that specific thing you’re looking for, these meets are an awesome opportunity to expand your network and maybe even make new friends.

That being said, we’re immensely grateful for all the support we continue to receive from the community and hope that you will consider joining in on the fun for the next one. Without you, the club cannot grow, cannot host its trademark events, and cannot even exist. As always, your annual membership and participation is our driving force, so please consider signing up as a member for all the benefits from event early access to exclusive merch. At R350 per year for new members and R300 per year thereafter, it’s still excellent value.

But for now, let’s turn our attention to the long-awaited and sorely missed event we call DubRun! Details drop tonight, so keep an eye on the page for all the info.

Yours in VW,

The Volkswagen Club of SA Committee

Better luck next time, these kinds of meets are the backbone of club events around the world and there is no reason for it not to be the same here.

FFS..... people are always looking for bits and bobs and others looking to get rid of stuff. This kinda event makes perfect sense. Like a flea market only for VW's. I guess you guys will have to enlist the help of an "influencer" to enhance / explain the merits of it
