Re: #DubRun2k16 - Official - #countdown
Well done to the comm for an epic Dubrun 16. Dezzi was very well organised, the most fun I had in a long time.
Beach Bums was a awesome party, even though I was sick like a dog. Glad I could meet a lot of the forum members.
Now to get my memebership paid. I will support you guys with as much events as I can. I'm in Lydenburg, Mpumalanga, but I do not mind the drive down to JHB for a few events a year.

#DubRun2k16 - Official - #countdown
Reflecting back on #dubrun16, I can without a doubt say that this was the most successful DubRun ever.
When we started planning this as a team, 6 months back, we were in agreement that we had to step up a notch or three, for the 10th run down to Durban, in our 30th year as a club.
And when I was standing on the track at Dezzi Raceway, with cars flying past me, I was so emotional, I shed a tear or five, the hard work, very late nights, the arguments, the massive setbacks, committee member resignations, the missing time with my SO, were all so damn worthwhile!
Wednesday night at #tapeup was epic! We’ve never seen such creativity with blue tape, and the descison last year to split the tape and theme cars into separate categories has proven to be a resounding success! It’s great to see that some guys are still sticking to the traditional blue tape, but as the event evolves, so should we! Wortherseë this year showed more and more cars with various vinyl themes, especially done for the event. It would be amazing in a couple of years to see #dubrun at that level!
We had to keep #tapeup from becoming another park off, and kept that quiet until the last minute, but it didn’t stop the GP Polo Crew from stopping by and saying hi!
The trip down on Thursday morning was not as cold as we expected it to be, with all the snow and cold weather around, but there was a lot of fog, making rolling shots quite tough for the photographers. There are still great shots around, check the FB page for them all. Pulling into Harrismith, on a busy public holiday, we were greeted with chaos at the One-Stop! It was great to see the KZN guys and FS guys join us, and the already large convoy grew even further.
Sadly, no trip of this magnitude can be without issues, and unfortunately we had a number of breakdowns on the drive down. What was great to see though, was the camaraderie shown by everyone, when a car was stopped on the side of the road, the song, No One Gets Left Behind comes to mind, and it shows how strong our community is. From helping out on the side of the road, to assisting getting help from the local mechanics and dealerships everyone helped out.
Friday morning saw us drive out to Hazelmere Dam, to enjoy a chilled day at a very picturesque location. Music was provided by Kash at Audiotrix, and braais and slushies by the club. Ruschen and Chris were happily snapping away pics, and enjoying the day. It was a great day, and easily my favourite on DubRun. Sadly, it wasn’t as well supported as we’d have liked, but everyone that joined us loved it!
Saturday was the BIG DAY! After all the red tape, and last minute MSA issues, it all turned out perfectly!
A huge thanks go to Darren Lewis and his team from MSA KZN. What a great guy and made our day run smoothly!
Dezzi is an absolute gem of a track, and easily has the best views out of any track I’ve visited in SA. Check out some of the pics, and I’m sure you’ll agree.
The NF Sponsored Heads Up Drags started out slowly, and I was worried guys would be tired by mid-day. At 2:30pm we had to chase guys off the track to finish off the day with some formation laps around the track. We had an aerial drone photographer for the day, be on the lookout for the footage in the next few days!
Wicked Dips sponsored the show n shine, and this was a huge bit! The DubLyf crew attended too, and I loved the yellow UP on Tarmacs!!! Between the 3 judges, (Shivani Pillay – Wicked Dips / Chris Wall – Vag Café / Ian –Chairman) it was the hardest choosing winners in each of the categories, we actually added 2nd and 3rd prizes to some of them as we were hung up on quite a few!
The overall winner was surprisingly the easiest choice, and we all agreed on that!
Finally, it was off to Beach Bums (and we were late thanks to another breakdown, and again, club members were on hand to assist) for prize giving and a jam jar.
What. A. Weekend!
I’d like to thank our sponsors for everything they’ve done to make #dubrun16 successful, and without them it would not have been possible!
