Re: Is it possible to build a Vw 2l 8v Engine into a Kombi?

VW themselves did a conversion kit which included a motor for the 2.1 boxer engined T3's. The flat four was prone to overheating and not very reliable. VW developed the kit based on the 2E engine and retained as much of the original parts as possible from the 2.1 including most of the Motronic EFI.

Re: Credit Card Fraud

I had a very misspent youth, so there were a few people in the 'group' who purchased credit cards from the merchies. The standard MO was to visit friends who worked at cash heavy businesses and swipe multiple times under the cards floor limit in exchange for hard currency. This continued till the ca...

Re: DIY GASKET?

What I normally do for an EGR blank off is to cut the OEM flange from the pipe and have it welded shut with 4 or 5mm plate. Refit with a new gasket from the dealer and done.

It's not pretty, but it works 100%, 100% of the time.

IIRC the flange is 6mm thick.

Mk2 CLi were launched in early '84, but I reckon a few may have been registered to the factory as early as September/October '83.

Original 16V exec. Dont even touch it unless it's to make it more original and cleaner and better.

Rather buy another mk 2 shell or non runner and then do the swop.

Re: Mk2 VR6 Swap

Search the forum for a thread about Vicki R32 AWD MK2. I know it not exactly what you had in mind, but it's very detailed and the early part of the thread deals with getting the engine mounted. I'm sure some of the info on that thread will be useful. Oh and don't forget about a brake upgrade for the...

Re: Nasty surprise!!

Not sure if he has the main caps either, think its called that. Every time I ask the question he avoids it. That would be a problem. Any other caps fitted to the motor would need line boring to make sure they were right. I noticed there isn't a picture of the engine number. How do you check if it's...

Re: Nasty surprise!!

I found another block, unfortunately the owner claims it has an 83mm bore which is quite a bit from std, I think it would be about 80 thou. I have never had an engine bored out that much, would you find KR pistons for that or would I have to use different ones? Does anyone know if it would still be...

It's not bad. No rust, some dents and bad filler, loose suspension and oil leaks. Normal stuff for an old car. No turbo plans, but I am investigating stroking it to 2.7 If it smokes, do it else restore and keep original. Sort out the suspension and oil leaks. The motor is actually the only thing th...
