Re: Clean and paint MK1/Citi Gearbox

Ok sweet. Thanks for the info guys.

I really need to go through my project thread and clean things up. Fixing all the images has put me off completely, but there are a number of updates I need to post.

At the moment time is my biggest problem.

Re: Wanted: MK3 Interior bits/spares

Is there no one here that has a 3 Printer that can maybe Print some of these parts for us? There surely must be. Failing this, I want to send my damaged cubby latch to Cast'Ems in Pretoria and see if he can sort something out. Must exhaust all local options before going international, especialy wit...

Re: Wanted: MK3 Interior bits/spares

Oof, that cubby latch is a mission to find. I am also on the hunt for one. If you do find one, make sure that the little arm the goes into the mechanism is not already cracked or cracking.

I am almost ready to just order one from the UK along with some other bits I am looking for on my cabrio.

Re: Clean and paint MK1/Citi Gearbox

OK so I had a look at the motor yesterday and it isn't really as bad as I thought it was. Stripped off the alternator, waterpump, fuel pump etc. So I reckon a few blasts and a soak with prepsol and then some action with the wire wheel and we should be good. The head also cleaned up nicely with some ...

Re: Clean and paint MK1/Citi Gearbox

You can have the head and 'box bead blasted and they will look like new again. The block you can also have bead blasted and then shoot it with normal high heat paint. I'd probably go this route if I was going to strip and rebuild the motor. There's nothing really wrong with it so I was just looking...

Re: Clean and paint MK1/Citi Gearbox

Yeah look I am not trying to make the thing look brand new. Just with a bright and shiny freshly painted engine bay, dropping an old filthy engine just looks makes the whole thing look really ****. The block is rusted to hell though, so I need to at least paint that black again and then refit things...

Clean and paint MK1/Citi Gearbox

Hey lads, I want to clean my engine and gearbox, then prep and paint before I put them back in the 2 door. I've got black high heat engine enamel for the engine block, I am battling to find silver for the head though. Gearbox I was going to just use hammerite silver but I did buy a silver Rustoleum ...

They ordered the roof shell from Germany. The shell at the time I ordered it was R25000.
Fitment and repairs to the other roof components comes to R7500 all in.

Roof arrived yesterday morning. Now to clear customs. Should hopefully drop the car off later this week if I'm lucky.

So, roof is on her way already. Unfortunately with our Customs it could take a week... or a month.

Apparently they are intercepting vehicle and part imports at random and they could delay the repair process.

At the same time when she's in for the roof I am giving the interior a bit of tlc.

What I really miss were the get togethers at the Zwartkops Club house. I couldn't wait for Friday night to go cruising out to Zwartkops to chat to "the old ballies".

Great time every time I went.

Forgot to add, I want them to also replace all the damaged sections between the outer shell and the inner lining, so that I have a full and complete spare roof available. The rear window is stitched into that section of the roof, so if I have one available as a spare that saves me tons of headaches ...

Re: So... this happened...

I'd get the old roof back as well, perhaps someone can do a semi decent repair on it (as a spare) Yup, I was thinking of doing exactly that, so once the shell is off, get them to try stitch the tear closed as tightly and neatly as possible, then take glue in a section of waterproofing along the who...

Re: So... this happened...

With what amount did the quotes differ? Best I've seen once was R8k to repair a brandy stain on a wheel arch if the insurance pays and R3k if I pay. They varied, 35k - 51k - 100k. I am going with Wynberg Motor Trimmers to repair the car. They are bringing in an original VW Roof from Germany. Probab...
