Re: 1.8 8v rebuild to 1.9 vs 2L 8v

Vipers car was a special ethanol build not sure which point of his build u were referring to. U would need some work to get to 90kw. You would need a surge tank to make the carb tank work. Search around there were quite a few discussion on the topic. The easiest and cheapest would still be buying a ...

Re: 1.8 8v rebuild to 1.9 vs 2L 8v

@mike didn't know the parts were that cheap. Anyways assuming that the 2e is an untouched import and with a 10-12k budget I would personally grab that 2e have the mechanic check that's 100% first. Then fit the 2e with a carb setup, new branch and exhaust for a modded 2.0 efi and mod it later. You ca...

Re: 1.8 8v rebuild to 1.9 vs 2L 8v

Lo & Slo what is your main objective?

Are you trying to have a cost effective rebuild with a small performance or are you trying to mod a car for performance? Importantly, what is your budget?

PS: all else equal, there is no replacement for displacement...

Re: VW Polo Vivo 1.4 55KW - First tank fuel consumption- Normal?

I see a few polo 9n 8v consumption figures here. The Vivo has the 1.4 16v engines from the new 6r polos. A Anyways my contribution - on long journeys i get about 860 to about 55lt fuel on the 63kw vivo sedan. shoprter trips never get less than 720kms on a tank. Consumption got a lot better for me af...

If its a holiday flat which you infrequently rent it out and/or you have a bond chances are you will have only a small profit or even a loss... which means the tax liability wont be huge... Taking a chance and not declaring might put you in a bad position when SARS finds you and you cant find all th...

Re: CLS engine block Vs CLP engine block

Save yourself a hassle and visit an engine importer. Much easier, quicker and more reliable way than rebuilding the block. I picked up a vivo engine for 10k a week back but you need to bargain and shop around. If you phone in you invariably get higher prices than if u stand in front of the salesman ...

safely cleaning rattlecan paint off rims and plastics

Hi Guys, i bought a car with the wheels sprayed matte black with what looks like a rattle-can spray job. the paint is already peeling off in multiple places and if you scratch the paint with your fingernail the black comes off it reveals the shiny, good condition clear coat of the OEM rim... If you are cost focused normally it is cheaper to buy someone's project which already has the bits and engine you need in it.

Costs will depend on how much you can diy and what you pay someone to do for you.

Re: Want to go boosted

When you have been through the experience of trying to build a custom turbo car from scratch u realise it's a backache of small cheap things that add up and make things far more expensive than you thought when u consider the cost of major components. Yes 8v turbo might be affordable but when the tur...

Re: Mid engined charade vw love child- Project Jellybaby

If you are targeting 90kw consider a 1900 conversion. 1900 uses 1800 crank and combi pistons with your std rods. Pistons are in the same ballpark price wise as the ones you got quotes on. 1800 cranks sell second hand from R800 upwards for a cast crank. The price from Goldwagen on the crank seems dec...
