At risk of stating the obvious... Keanublack got his out of an A3 if I recall correctly, so check scrapyards if you have the time and patience. eBay also has a couple on sale.

 Re: Unit RNS510
never heard of it before, all the other forums indicate people changed theirs, but worth a try if it's done by VW - they can sort you out if they muck it up.

 Re: Unit RNS510
Managed to get over to Tremor Audio (thanks, Jules for finding a spot!!) to do the radio swap, MDI and BluetoothIf anyone needs it, this should help removing the radio surround without breaking the delacate clips... And to show where the clips are...

 Re: Unit RNS510
I guess we missed one peice of coding out. Radio info shows on radio, as does telephone menu, but I gather there should also be a screen showing direction when using the navigation, which it is not. How irritating, will have to try get access to VCDS again.

 Re: Unit RNS510
Hi Guys, I've received the unit, and have fitted it in, review of unit coming in following post... Fresh out form the box This is the standard unit Remove the surrounding casing from the bottom, just above the aircon controls, remember, you might have to use a bit of force. Remove the 4 screws Simply Slide the unit out, watch out for the plugs at the back. Be gentle also not to scratch the surroundings of your dash. Remove the back plugs on the std unit. RCD310 vs WD6050 This is the connecting plugs that the Satnav provided Connect the std plugs into the respectable spots, it can only fit one way. Locate a position for your GPS mouse, it can be fitted anywhere, but remember the higher the better reception, secure with double sided tape. Plug the plugs from the connectors into the unit itself. also goes 1 way. Slide it back in, but test it out before using. Then screw in, and snap the moulding back on. PS: Remember, the 2 screws ontop of the Satnav unit must be removed, or else no DVD will play... Please feel free to comment or ask questions...

 Re: Unit RNS510
This is my review of the unit:
Radio - 7/10 - Not easy to setup, and User Interface can be a bit easier..
DVD - 9/10 - Video quality EXCELLENT, a bit of glare from the sun, and User Interface is excellent, even got a memory function.
Bluetooth - 1010 - Easy Linking, Clear sound from both ends, and easy to use and big dial numbers.
SATNAV - 7/10 - Purely cause i'm not use to iGo8, but does need updated maps and more POI and better voices. Don't like to only hear Jason.
SD Card - 5/10 - Very slow, User Interface extremely confusing, plays AVI etc, but once you go out, no memory, Not as good as expected.
iPod - 8/10 - Easy to use, came with a iPod cable as well, and can control iPod with your steering wheel and through the device itself

 Re: Unit RNS510
That unit loks different from the "normal" RNS 510, got an extra slot for "GPS card" which mine does not have, and the UI is different as are the buttons. Also, the plug is different at the back. Does not look like OEM VW? Would be interesting to compare side by side.

 Re: Unit RNS510
Righto, all sorted - did miss something in the coding. Now got the nav screen on the MFD showing time, distance and directions to destination. Also got the compass point next to the cloch where it should be...

 Re: Unit RNS510
A few questions on that stopshop unit: Does it display your climat control data? HAve you got the OPS installed? If so does it diaplay that? Any error codes via vagcom? Basically does the radio use tha canbus system? Steering wheel controls also work?

 Re: Unit RNS510
The unit has none of this. Build quality bad. IPod connection will break soon and the unit freezes a lot. How do I know this? Bought one. Threw it away and got a rns 510. Cheap place to get it except for stop shop is www.szwaywell.com. You save about R500 to a R1000. Sorry WildCars. Not trying to say bad about the unit but when you use an rns510 you will know what I mean

 Re: Unit RNS510
HI there,
All steering wheels control works, the MFD also displays all the radio stations etc.
Unit also displays the climate control status, and will pop up as you change settings..
I'm pretty impressed with the unit, you have to specify the 2010 unit, as it uses a double canbus...
I would still prefer the RNS510, but alas, out of my price range with my current finance...
What is the average price of the RNS?
