Re: turbo difference
As far as I recall, GT is a normal journal bearing turbo, and the GTB is a ball bearing turbo.
Both have the exact same specs otherwise.
I could be wrong, please correct if I am.

Re: turbo difference
Gtb is not necessarily a ballbearing turbo.
On the garret part numbers, they mean the following: example GTB1756VKLR
GT/GTA/GTB/GTC/GTD - series of turbo
15/17/20/22 etc - frame size
49/52/56/60 etc - compressor wheel exducer diameter
V - vnt
K - electronic actuator
L - watercooled
R - ballbearing
Basically a GTB Is just a newer generation vnt mechanism that's built into the chra rather being integrated into the turbine housing like the GT.
Choosing between the gt1752 and gtb1752 - I assume u referring to the gt1749 with a 52mm billet wheel...
The gt1752 will be much easier and cheaper because it's a direct bolt on.
Gtb on the other hand will cost alot more because it takes much more work to get it dialed in and it's not a direct bolt on.
The GTB17 is a better turbo than the GT17 though in terms of performance. It will spool up the same if not a little better than the GT - and it can handle alot more abuse than the gt17.
Iv been up to a GTB2265 journal bearing turbo on a 1.9tdi daily driven car without any drivability issues.
To be honest I don't get the whole "daily" thing. I guess some cars are running around with real kak setups and tunes that they complain about daily driving. Lol
My personal daily driven car was a gt2256 hybrid, got better consumption than a stock turbo and the power gain is next level - without any issues.. If the car is built and tuned well u not gonna have any problems.
Just remember that bigger turbos call for more supporting mods and in the TDI scene these days, it's costs quite abit.
One last thing, u get a whole lot of different size housings on turbos. Not all are the same because they have the same part number ie gtb1752v - they all have different size (AR) compressor and turbine housings which determines how the turbo works.

Re: turbo difference
Now that was a brilliant answer, Ashveer. Thanks my man, now I also know.
I have never looked into different turbos for TDI's because I have not been interested in modding them, besides simple software, like my Caddy has.

Re: turbo difference
No worries, glad that I could have been of some help.
I still remember very clearly 10years ago not many people looked at a TDI with a performance mind. U would barely find a modded one.
Now almost all tdis are modded. They respond very well to it.

Re: turbo difference
Maybe you and I remember differently, but with the launch of the 2dr Polo Sportline TDi and the Seat with the same motor tuners went absolutely nuts with it and it was very popular at the timeAshveer03 wrote:No worries, glad that I could have been of some help.

I've no idea how close my current one is to the 1752 spec just now. Might be virtually the same...Marlin pmb wrote: ↑Thu Nov 03, 2022 10:51 am Hi can anyone tell me the difference between a gt 1752 and gtb1752 turbos
