Paint restoration - badly oxidized tazz

Post by N3mo »

A detail I did a while back... Been getting some requests to post it here... So here it is

This car has been on my list for while now, its my neighbours car and is parked of most of the time so i see it everyday, I had a good couple of chats with him and he had always been impressed with the cars that we have detailed and he asked if we could do something to help him out.

The paint on the car was badly oxidized and faded, the car had been to the body shop for "polishing", but it always came back with lil shine and went back to faded in a weeks time. Upon inspection we found that the some areas had been resprayed and the color poorly matched, The headlights were faded and because of this the car  was not used most of the time. The owner had taken the car to various body shops to see if there was still hope in restoring the finish but he was advised that only a paint job would work out, so he was a bit skeptic when we accepted the challenge

The owner was more then excited with the outcome and best of all we saved the car from a paint job & the owner saved his money.

He almost did, after the Detail the car was used a lot more. That itself showed that we had given the paint a new lease of life.

Another restoration I did after the tazz which had about the same oxidation on the bonnet.

That was needed to get the job done right.

It's my working style that suits me, I only do correction and refining / jewelling with machine. Everything else I'm faster by hand currently.

Yeah I agree, for this I'd also sand by hand.

awesome transformation

i'm guessing the wet sand method will only work on cars with 2K paint?
It is an ingenius solution to a problem that should have never existed in the 1st place...

Nope, it will work in clear coats as well, sometimes it's better to sand cars with heavy defect down then polish instead of multiple hits with the machine.

Also for cars with Orange peel, you can sand the peaks flat then polish for a glass finish.
