Golf Tenacity 1.4 2008 model

Hello Guys. I bought the above golf for my son to travel to university. We are based in the northern suburbs of Cape Town. The car drives very well but we need help with two issues.

1) The car dies when the clutch is pressed when stopping. You just loose revs and the car stalls. It only happens now and then.

2)The heater and the fan speed work well unfortunately if you try and change the direction of the air it only blown out the front vents. Can this be replaced or fixed before we hit winter.

Any ideas or advice of good technicians will be greatly appreciated.
