MK5 replacing RCD210 with RCD510

Post by SpaffyZA »

Hello all.

As per the subject I'm looking to swap out the RCD210 with a RCD510 on my wife's MK5 Jetta.
Yes there are better options but I can get the 510 for relatively cheap so that's what I'm going for.

I'd like to know if it's a straight swap, or do I need any adapters for the antenna etc.

Will also be fitting generic bluetooth adapters to that and to the RCD310 in the MK6 Golf.

Should be fine, I replaced the standard HU in my Mk5 Golf with the RCD510 and it was plug n play...... (obviously needed the HU security code)

That's sounds exactly like what I want to hear, thank you

Edit: from some googling it seems the RDC210 has a single antenna plug and the RDC510 a double plug of sorts. Can someone confirm?
So I'd need an adapter.

So I bought a RNS315 China marker variant.
Looks like the RDC510 but with navigation & bluetooth built in. I should be getting it this week and will post a pic after it's installed.
Will need to find local maps for it, not sure how they work yet.

edit: not sure how to post pic, via link didn't work.

Found one local on another forum for under R1500.

On Ebay they're around the R2k mark.

Here's some more pics.

Fitted it last night. Took about 15min of which 10min was removing the trimmings to get the old radio out.
Plug and play, while the antenna of the RNS315 is a dual plug I fitted the current single plug to the right plug and the FM radio works fine.

Now I need to find local maps if even possible for that radio. Also it doesn't have a built in mic so using it for phone calls is useless.
Bluetooth works fine otherwise, steering controls etc all working.

Here's a pic of it installed.
