How to determine what tuning brand is loaded if any?

Post by Dale »

Hi guys,

Is there a way to check what brand of software is loaded on a ecu if the car was bought second hand with no info from previous owner?

Or, just a simple case of taking it back to the agents and let them load stock software and see if there is a difference in performance?

Also, assuming software is loaded by company y and you would like a retune by company x, can x software be loaded over y or not?

Thanks.

Depends on which car and which software. Which car are we talking about?

Unless the tagged the brand name you won't know. Run it on a known dyno somewhere then you can get an idea of whatvot makes and what the delivery looks like. Thatbwaynifmitnhas a nice map on you can just leave it instead of spending money again to get anotehr loaded.
Yes you can overload x if there is y loaded now.

Some tuners change the software coding tag as can be seen in the engine module using vcds.

Yup but less and less of them do that becuase guys load it on cars under warranty and want to hide the obvious tag when you scan the module
