Golf 7 using oil
Hi
I have the new Golf 7 1.4 TSI since March 2013.
I have already used 1 pint before 9000 km. Taking it to the
VW Service Centre my wife was told to go and buy Castrole Edge 5W30.
Firstly I'm expecting a bit more customer service from this specific VW service
Centre than to send a woman to go and add oil to a brand new VW and secondly
I'm not sure if a Golf should use a pint even before its first service...
Never the less it was done. Looking at the dipstick (11400 km)
I will have to add another 2 pints of oil.
I can't see any oil leaks and I will take it to VW next week but
this does not seem normal.
Anyone els having the same problem?
Gert

Re: Golf 7 using oil
What does the manual say? 1l/1000km is normally within spec.

Re: Golf 7 using oil
It's very common for a new engine to use oil in the first 10000km, especially a turbo motor. If you don't see any leaks or visible smoking I wouldn't be worried yet. Keep an eye on it and make sure you send an email stating what's happening, keep the record just in case it's the start of a problem - which I doubt.

Re: Golf 7 using oil
This was a problem on the first batch of 1.4tsi Polo Gti's as well. Would changing to shell helix 10w40 not help a lot with this?

Re: Golf 7 using oil
No, it'll just delay the inevitable IF there is something going wrong.
Its a brand new car, you shouldn't be trying to find a fix, if there is a problem take it back.

Re: Golf 7 using oil
My cc used oil the first 10k. Drove like an animal however! After 15 it stopped and motor was much loose and felt like it had more power.

Re: Golf 7 using oil
I hear what you guys are saying about being normal for this car to use. This I understand as I know new engines need to bed in the rings, etc. But we are living in 2014. Is it not suppose to use less than that?
I am also concerned about the catelytic converter as I understand burnt oil gives off some fumes and smoke which can damage the catelytic converter or it's sensors.

Re: Golf 7 using oil
You sure they topped up oil correctly? I'd top up and monitor. How many km's back was the oil service?WesleyV wrote:Just bought a 2013 1.4 tsi bluemotion has 89k on the clock which according to dealerships is pretty decent mileage but here's the catch...oil change service was just done as per service bookman 89k km oil light comes on says check oils I check it and what does it show about a pint of oil left in engine.is this normal think not...help pls

Re: Golf 7 using oil
Hi Guys
I own a VW golf 7 2013 as well and I have been having huge problems with the oil usage, the usage of oil in these models is definitely not normal and VW has made an error somewhere in the engine design or manufacturing of the engine.
VW has suggested that I replace the entire engine now.
@ the other VW owners: please advise how you sorted the issue out.
Thank you.
