MK3 CENTRAL LOCKING

Post by WaaapWaaap »

Hi all, regarding the central locking pump on my MK3 GTI, when you lock and lock the car it usually make like a buzzing noise when the pump is working, thats normal. All of a sudden when you lock the car the pump makes its usuall buzzing noise but i carries on for like 10-15 seconds and then stops. The doors all lock and unlock perfect but im concerned about the long buzzing noise. What can that be??? Please help.

Thanx in advance.

You will have to check the pipes all round the car one of them might be leaking,
thats what happened to mine.
and not so long ago it just gave in all together. bye bye central locking

I just spoke to the previous owner and he fitted a brand new OEM pump in the car 18 months ago, so it definately wont be the pump. I recon that one of the pipes is leaking, i will have to check them out. The doors unlock and lock perfectly but as i mentioned it buzzes a little too long once the car is locked.

Yip, sounds like a small leak. The hose in my passenger door (in the rubber boot) often comes off and then the left side doors just dont lock. In your case it may be coming loose.

Lift the carpet at the back by the pump. You should see that the vacuum hose splits in two (I think). Disconnect the one hose and block off the t-connector going that way. Then lock the car and see if the pump stops immediately or keeps running. If it keeps running reconnect the hose and disconnect the other one, block off the t-connector and lock again. This way you should be able to determine what side of the car the leak is on. (Just check which doors lock and which remain unlocked). That should save you having to check all the doors and connectors.
My other car's a french maid with a large derriere.

It could be a leak on the pump lines. But the pump also has a 'pressure sensor' in it to detect when all the doors lock or open. There are 2 disks that are on a threaded shaft that make contact with a switch that turns the pump off. I think you should move the disk that is on the end of the shaft closer to the switch. I know it sounds confusing now but you will see what i mean when you open the pump.

Ok guys, i found the problem on the central locking, the main pipe that runs into the pump is leaking, need to replace it. What piping do i use, is there anything specific to use???

Thanx.

Normal vacuum line should be fine. It should fit nicely over the cl piping. Can get it from any spares shop.

Cut out the damaged section cl pipe and take it as a sample. The pipe you would want is the thin rubber one. Think its 4 or 5mm inner diameter.

Yeah... good luck with that. Nothing new available anymore. You will need to DIY.

Maybe upload some photo's, might help identify the required part.
