Re: MICROBUS.......
1.8's were commonly known as Kombi's, and were mostly Panelvans. But they were nothing to 2.3's. In fact, the 2.3's were the best Carabusses made(being a former taxi driver, I should know).

Re: MICROBUS.......
There were lots of 1.8 Kombis sold. Yes, as someone else stated they were badged Kombi and not Microbus when they were passenger vehicles. The 1.8 panelvans were badged Transporter in the early 80s and Van in the late 80s and the 90s. They always had 4 speed gearboxes. The Kombi was a stripped out Microbus...AFAIK they never had P/S or A/C and in the 90s had wheel caps and not mags as standard and a single headlight grille.
Many of the 1.8 buses were owned by SAPS and overall they were quite uncommon siince at the time there was a more sensible 2.3i "volksiebus" that was only a little more expensive.
If you're buying a T3 as a family vehicle I highly recommend the 2.5i. That was the best cruiser made in T3 buses. The 2.6i fuel consumption was ALOT higher. The 2.3i was an excellent passenger vehicle but the fuel consumption was higher than the 2.5i due to the 4 speed box. My dad had owned the 1.8, 2.5i and 2.6i and we found the 2.5i to be the best overall option.
Hope my post helps P.S If you need any help just PM me, I know a fair bit about T3 buses and the continued improvements that were made to them over the years.
[EDIT] During the late 90s the 1.8 T3 was badged Microbus.

so which year model for the 2.5 would you recommend and why ?Possession wrote:There were lots of 1.8 Kombis sold. Re: MICROBUS.......
I dónt get why the 2.5 would be heavier than the 2.6, they are identical engine blocks, 2.5 uses k-jet and 2.6 digifant style injection, so the 2.6 should be better.
My dad on the other hand said screw this and put a 2.8 30V audi V6 in his, IIRC the 5-speed box lasted all of 100m when it exploded during the test-run 2nd gear change. He changed it to a 4spd and never looked back

Re: MICROBUS.......
On paper the 2.6i is lighter but in practice it isn't. Ask anyone that had owned both around the same time and they will agree that the 2.5i is lighter. I do know that the 2.6i is heavier... Anyway, these are just my opinions.JVRDesign wrote:I dónt get why the 2.5 would be heavier than the 2.6, they are identical engine blocks, 2.5 uses k-jet and 2.6 digifant style injection, so the 2.6 should be better.

All the 2.5i models were pretty much the same. They didn't even appear across specs.GV wrote:so which year model for the 2.5 would you recommend and why ?Possession wrote:There were lots of 1.8 Kombis sold. Stronger motors and much easier to repair due to kjet and cheaper parts + lighter on fuel + better acceleration

Re: MICROBUS.......
I have long forgotten the relay number. But they are easilynidentified when you pull them out. The fuel pump relay has much bigger terminals on the middle two amd it has a small pin offset to the side that the others don't have

Re: MICROBUS.......
Hi. I have a T3 2.5i Caravelle with AAY engine. 1991 model. Kombi having misfire problem only when reaching temp and when fan kick on. Running 100% when cold no problems but the moment it gets hot misfire starts and engine dies aswell then struggling to start again. I replaced the coil with Bosch, Distributor, Plugs, Leads, fuel distributor, fuel pump, ignition module, fuel filter and air filter but nothing is working. I even had kombi with autolek but to no prevail. Not sure what to do now all mechanics stump and everyone giving differentopinions but nothing working. Did or are thereany T3 owners out there that have or had the same problem a I need to urgently fix it. Thanks
