Golf mk3 central locking pump

Post by theunis.visser »

Hi all.

Today took delivery of a 96 Golf GTS. When I test drove it around 2 weeks ago all was fine. Today the central locking refused to work. The pump is dead quiet.

I am looking for info on how I can test the loom and connector to the pump as I need to confirm if the pump is toast or not.

Thanks in advance.

On mine i had a break in the loom on the driver side door.

I simply tested the loom wires one by one with a miltimeter untill i found tye broken wire, once i found it i replaced that entire wire end to end.

Problem solved. Check the divers side door 1st if you suspect a break in the loom.

UPDATE: I found an article about remote central locking that explains how to test the wiring on the pump. Turns out there should be a constant 12v supply across the red and black wires... mine = 0v. Traced the wires back to the dash but cannot find markings for fuses for central locking as I think it may be a dead fuse.

Lets hope you get lucky and it is just a dead fuse. I am wondering if the fuse layout in my MK3.5 Manual might not show where the fuse is located.
Unfortunately its at home right now but I can look tonight if you'd like?

Sorry for the late reply.

Checked fuses 14 and 21 bit *sigh* they were good.

Anyone know where the constant 12 volt supply ties into the fuse box (relay maybe?).

I need to find the 12 volt constant supply and hopefully I can get the pump working.
