polo 6r rear suspension squeaking/creaking.

Post by mellos »

Good day
I have this annoying squeaking which is coming from the rear of my car.
It is not on the brakes or the shocks or shock mounts or bump stoppers
as I have replaced both sides already.I have tried lubricating the bushes on the rear
axle but it does not lessen the noise at all.
I saw a post in which a guy said that the agents replaced whole rear axle.
My question is what could go so horribly wrong with the rear axle for it to
make that creaking or squeaking noise.Logically thinking I would say the
bushes are more likely to give in sooner than a solid metal axle.
I am trying to gather as much information before I jump in and buy a complete new axle.
Has anyone experienced this and solved it by replacing the axle bushes?
Thanks in advance.

Thats a strange one - where exactly does it sound like the sound is coming from? I know you said the rear of the car - but could it possibly be rear bearings?

No its not a hum like a wheel bearing it mostly occurs at low speed when manouvering on an uneven surface but
disappears when driving on the road.I did jack the car up on the jacking points and if you are under the car with your
ear close to the axle it seems to be coming from the center of the axle and not the ends by the bushes.
It is very strange as I am confused as to what could be the problem with the axle for it to make that noise.

Hi guys me again,I am still experiencing the creaking noise on the rear of my polo,I have now replaced the bushes on the rear beam/axle,replaced rear discs and brake pads but still no joy, what is basically left that has not been changed is the rear axle/beam itself,I'm at my wits end with this problem guys, any other suggestions before tackling the axle?

Thanks.....

My car just started making the same creaking noise after the recent heavy rain . Not sure if that was a contributing factor.

Did you manage to find the problem ?

@mellos, if you have the 6r hatch remove the boot shocks and test drive it without the boot shocks.
NB get someone to keep the bootlid while removing the shocks and all you need is a flat screwdriver for the job.

Hi guys I know it's been a long time but still battling with that noise on the rear suspension, been looking around for a good second hand rear axle so managed to source one, looking at replacing it this coming weekend, had a panel beater look at the one on my car and it appears to have a kink in it most probably been in a smash from previous owner,so that is what is causing the creaking, will report back once it's done.
