Re: Are Achilles tyres any good?
What utter BS.
I had 225/40/18 Archillies 2233's on my 400nm+ Volvo and the dry grip was great, they don't last very long though, 15k km and the front tires
were quite a bit warn.
Wet grip was.....not that good.

Your comment about the other comments being utter BS sounds to be utter BS based on your comment on the other comments.SemiColon wrote:What utter BS.

Re: Are Achilles tyres any good?
Tyres are something you never, ever should cheap out on. They will and can change the entire feel of the car - and provide a very crucial safety and performance aspect. They are the only point of contact between you and the road.
Go for Goodyear Eagle F1s if you want UHP tyre with a great price:performance. Go for Pilot Sport 4s if you want the best UHP tyre in that category.

Agree . How would the Achilles hold up when you have to avoid an idiot/pothole/dog on the road vs a UHP tyre ?Fluke132 wrote:Tyres are something you never, ever should cheap out on. Re: Are Achilles tyres any good?
whats the car's main purpose? to race it daily or to just enjoy it and every now and again spin the front wheels? i'd say Achilles will be fine if you dont stretch them and if you drive chilled most of the times. I dont see the purpose of spending 4k per tyre if you dont track race your car on a weekly basis. i've used Achilles many times and had NO issues.

Re: Are Achilles tyres any good?
I wouldn't use anything like Achilles on a performance hatchback, whether it is tracked or not, they are simply no where near as good as the better name brand performance tyres out there.Lawry wrote:whats the car's main purpose? to race it daily or to just enjoy it and every now and again spin the front wheels? i'd say Achilles will be fine if you dont stretch them and if you drive chilled most of the times. That's great and all but i had them on my prev. Re: Are Achilles tyres any good?
Prevoius owner fitted achillies , 235,45,17, WORST TYRES EVER!!
I nearly killed myself, NO dry grip , forget about braking in the wet , and horrible roadnoise due to being symmetric, directional tyres as well.
You need an Asymmetic tyre on the modern cars,
I'm currently on sportcontact 5, ran them in propperly, x-ross rotate, and they on +19k , still 6mm tread depth.
Considering you have 4 patches of rubber the size of your palm keeping you and others safe, I would not buy cheap, sub standard tyres.
Buy the best value tyres, best brakes , you can afford, and buy less take away's.

Re: Are Achilles tyres any good?
They'll do the job. I've used them before and had no issues. They're decent for the price you pay. But when you switch to something like a Michelin PS, you realize why they cost more.
It's up to you. You're not going to die if you use the Achillies but you won't get the most out of your car either.
