Golf 5 Gti cutting out & bogging after cambelt service

Post by Syeasy »

Hi guys need some help.

I recently got my oil cooler replaced and did a cam belt service. Soon after my Epc came on, the car had limited power and bogged when i tried to flow it. a few days later the epc light went off but the bogging got worse, jerks when you accelerate, under revs and eventually cuts out. I parked it off a about two days and now it wont even start. Any idea what the issue might be. The vehicle drove perfectly before the cam service and oil cooler replacement.

I suspect the following but would like to hear your thoughts

Mechanic removed turbo pipes to do the cam service, could it be that pipes where not correctly fitted there is a vacuum/air leak?
Timing one tooth out?

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Cambelt change needs to be done 100% the first time ,do it very wrong and you will bend valves. I suggest you get your car scanned with VCDS or VAG-COM before any further attempts to start or carry out repairs. Double check all pipes and remove cambelt cover to assess cambelt.

Can only guess the timing was way out after the cambelt change. I guess the mechanic you used maybe was not a VW Tech or specialist.
Lets hope he pays for any damage he caused if it is the case.

Have you taken it back to him?

Actually he works for the Vw in Alberton. A friend had recommended him.

I got him to come back and look at it and he plugged his laptop in, he says the only codes he is getting is turbo related and fuel being too lean. He denies the timing is out and if that was the case he would have cam related error codes. I'm super frustrated with this guy as he keeps taking me round in circles and not getting down to the problem

Can anyone recommend someone with experience that can check the vehicle for me, would be much appreciated

If he is getting low fuel pr ssure it might be the in-tank pump that failed.

I highly doubt its the intank pump as i replaced it in Dec last year, i can hear it come on when i turn the key on. I believe the fuel related code he is pulling is due to my hpfp sensor that has a hairline crack, i swapped the sensor out with a brand new sensor from another pump but hasn't made a difference, so that definitely isnt the problem. :???:

I'm no mechanic but I would assume that it would have something to do with your timing.

If there was a mechanical timing issue trust me that management bleats about it like a stuck pig. So if the guy really did not gettting codes complaining about timing then it ain't timing.
