Switches in Jetta mk2
These cars were fitted with Grundig stereos, the one with the speaker controlled the rear and front speakers, the one with the engine and bell is the indicator/LED for your alarm/immo, you can disconnect it if you dont have the immo anymore or if you decide to install a new immo you can hook it up onto the new system.

There is only one way to find out, remove the facia plate or gooi your hand onto the right hand side where the radio used to be, the harness could be there. Not sure if i still have a spare switch somewhere, i will have a look.

Re: Switches in Jetta mk2
I can check my demister harness to see the colour and total wires the harness is made of, if it might help.
Like 175sbu said, I remember my jetta also had the vol control in, i took mine put coz it caused some distortion on my speakers, i do remember almost all those wires were brown with blue, red, etc stripes in them

Re: Switches in Jetta mk2
Sound definitely like that is the vol control harness, think it should be 8 or more wires. I checked the demister has 4 wires, brown , black , white and grey.
