Mk2 GTi 16V Indicators not working when headlights are on

Post by Wolf Mk2 16V »

I never really drive Wolf at night, but yesterday on a milk run I noticed that the indicators don't work when the headlights are on. The green LED comes on but does not flicker as per normal and the actual indicator does not come on. As soon as you switch of the lights everything works fine... Any ideas?

Check all your earth connections. Your indicators are earthing through the headlights.

Thanks PapaJo,

It turned out that the alternator was not charging because of the blue wire being loose (so battery light on dash also did not work) and the battery could not cope with all the loads by itself, explains why I had to charge the battery all the time. I do very little mileage in her, so I emptied the battery every time I took her for a Sunday run

Interesting!
It takes many bolts to assemble a car, but only one nut to scatter it all over the road.
