Another coilover thread

Post by zane.mk1 »

Hi Gents,

Need some advice / info please!

Will be fitting a set of coilovers to my Citi soon.

Coilovers of choice will be the JOM redlines.

What I would like to know:

Should I set a decent ride height at first to settle the shocks in before slamming them down?
Should I remove the helpers allround?
Should I cut the bumpstops?

you can go way down by removing the helpers but it would be bouncy....
are you gonna put strut spacers?

the idea for now is to get the car sitting nice and low while still having a decent ride.

I will look into notch and extended top mounts for ultra low in future.

Remove helpers if slamming it on its nuts

Remove/trim bumpstop yes

They'll settle a lil but nothing major, if your plan is to slam it then it'll make little difference what you do on a mk1 lol

Extended top mounts will help though

Same for ball joint extenders and tie rod flip

it's gonna ride badly anyway so don't worry about trying to keep any ride quality.

Does trimming the bumpstop make the ride better?

Yes if you lowered enough you'll end up riding on the bumpstop which create a bumpy harsh ride

You should just install first so you can get an idea of how the car will look then you can adjust from there
Should I remove the helpers allround?
Yes it will make adjusting easier too and free up space so you can go really low
Should I cut the bumpstops?
Yes you should, or like me just take them out completely
tx
You should c-notch only if you plan on going ultra down ie if you have low profile tires or 14s and really wanna stance, otherwise not necessary. My car is set on around 70/60 and c-notch wasn't required, however it is a nice thing to do since it saves the chances of the cv shaft rubbing against the chassis
If you're in control, you're not going fast enough!

The drive shaft rubs. . Cv is very far from there.

And you don't need to go that low to get the driveshafts to rub, mine already do from time to time and my MkI is not low at all.

I know. On the right hand side with the thicker shaft specially. Have done a few in my day for race cars.
