Yokohama A-drive R1 88000km
Yokohama S-drive 84000km but will never buy them again. NOISE, sounds like wheelbearings failed
Hankook Ventus S1 Evo not sure about milage but a lot, 70000 +... second set of Hankooks going strong

Mileage on the tyres are largely affected by driving style and type of driving. On my brother's TDi XPolo, he got in excess of 120k km's on a set of Bridgestone's (got 110k km's on the next set) But it was non stop start commute , open road 80km / day. Stop start kills stuff on a car.

+1
I do 125km everyday, no stop/start stuff...

So, I've had a really busy week and didnt get around to doing the tyres.
I was pretty set on the Mich Pilot sport 3.
Now i've been digging up more reviews and the Goodyear f1 asymm 2 actually seems to come out tops most the time. One post said that the Mich Pilot sport "is not suppose to compete with the asymms"... they said that Michelins equivalent of the asymms are the Mich Super Sport, not the Pilots
Tomw is full so I guess I'll have to do it next week!
I am following this closely because I have to do the same damn thing. I also read that, my biggest concern is the durability and mileage. The last set of bridgestoes I had did 95 000km and I would hate the Michelins or Goodyears to get 40 000km.
the goodyears are a little cheaper. one of my major concerns is people saying the michelins are soft. and the goodyears harder. wondering what affect that's going to have on mileage.

I had 2x sets Bridgestone MY-01 and they ran 95 000km a set, however, I don't think they too keen on handling 400nm. I would definitely take more mileage for a bit less performance as I am a very relaxed driver.

Can't go wrong with that option....... moreso as he recommends it!
Has anyone put any of these tyres on since this thread. A few people mentioned that they needed to, got 1 or 2 pm's as well.
I've just been so busy that i havent had a chance to
Bought a set of Conti's Sport's last week and got it for a steal of 1.2k each for my Polo GTI(same size 205/45/16). OEM tyre that these polo's came out the factory. They are AA traction and W speed rated - Very important since there's only a handful of tyres with this rating in that size.
Any other tyre aside from the conti sport ,Michelin Pilot sport,Goodyear Assy's and Potenza would smoke up when I put mu foot flat in second gear on a dry road.
As said , Mileage is manly dependent on driving style, Tyre pressures and tyre rotation however dont expect great mileage out of a sport's tyre ,as the tread is polyester(good for grip, bad treadwear) as opposed to a nylon tyre (bad grip , good mileage)
All chinese and our locally made tyres sucks when it comes to performance
You will only find a bridgestone MY01locally , not worthy of the bridgestone name in my opinion.

That must be the Conti Sport 2?
Seems to be the only one available in that size.
Being OEM I still have one as a spare.
Where did you find them?
I'm getting the Asymm 2 at R1500 each which is quite a bit less than what i've seen them advertised elsewhere.

Correct Conti Sport 2 and yes it's only available in that size.
Got it by GP Tyre and Mags(last 4 laying in stock) , My initial plan was to buy the Asymm's 2 from Wahib(got quoted same price 1.5k) but then came across the conti's.
Asymm's is a good choice, you wont be disappointed.
ok- I also considered the CS2 as I only really needed to sort out front tyres immediately and I already have a new CS2 as my spare. So thought about sticking the old Hankook in the boot as a spare and getting another CS2 for the front. Anyway, ready so many good reviews about the Asymms that I decided to rather just go that route. Don't have much life left in the back two, so they'd need replacing pretty soon.
Slightly off this topic, but my rims have a little damage - nothing too major. Wondering about getting them touched up before fitting the tyres.
Best quote I have is R450 each. So I'd be spending R1800 to do all 4.
Can anyone recommend anybody for this job? I suppose that's about the best price I'd get?
Might just fit the tyres and worry about the rims later.
Theres a thread somewhere about a really bad place to have your wheels repaired (I think it was Pitzi's wheels and others also had bad experiences)...i suggest searching in the rant and rave section before committing to a place to do the work.

In Cape Town, Zaki at WheelWorx. Or Mitch at The Mag Workshop.
I busted a tyre today and it couldnt be fixed. I know that I need to put new tyres on soon.
Looking for some recommendations. Currently have the hankook ventus v12 on. I initially felt that they were a little noisy, but the car handled well. (and they look pretty cool haha).
Let me know what you think and if you know of any specials on.
Also - they are 205/45/16
That doesn't seem like a very common size. excuse my ignorance, but do I need to use exactly the same size?
I do like to accelerate and feel the torque which obviously affects tyre choice and wear.
thanks! Hope this is the right section of the forum.
I must say I have gone through a few tyres on my polo 9n3 and I used to run on a 205/45 or 40R17 with a little stretch. The tyre I used was the falkens and I was very impressed with price vs quality
