Okay so my mk1 makes this pinging noise if I put my foot down. The sound is only there when I put my foot down. Almost like im to high gear for the speed but im not. Mostly hear it when you go uphill

Sounds like your timing is slightly too advanced. Abnormal detonation at high rpm. Retard a little and check.

In addition, also check whether the distributor vacuum advance is working and that the vacuum line from carb to the distributor is connected and not sucking air in.

Check airpipe from car to dizzy 1st as Papa suggested. They tend to often slip out/tear resulting in the timing not adjusting across the rev range.
To retard, loosen the 8mm bolt at base of dizzy and turn dizzy very little anticlockwise, lock 8mm bolt and test on high gear at low rpm.

Those distributors still advance even with no vacuum attached. It only adds some more when you are on partial throttle.
But yes retard the timing a little bit or use a lower gear and not labour the car.
