Hi,
Currently I have 205/40/17 running on the car, the two front tyres need replacing and I'm currently looking at 215/45/17 and possibly 225/45/17. The price difference between the tyres are negligible at best so that is not the concern. I'm just curios as to whether anyone has gone from the 205/40/17 to a slightly bigger tyre. Is the duration better etc, I should also mention the car is lowered on Eibach Pro Kit Springs. Logic is telling me that the extra size might be beneficial with regards to possible damage(potholes etc) but of course this is open for discussion. The vehicle in question is a 2007 9n3 Tdi.
From personal experience with the 205/40/17, it feels like the tyre takes a lot more wear and tear due to the profile.

Re: Tyre size advice
Profile would be higher, rolling circumference would change, speedo would read less than with current setup, fuel consumption would increase.

Re: Tyre size advice
I run 215/40/17 on my car.. just cause I wanted a wider tyre.. so the SO does not curb rash the rims..

Re: Tyre size advice
The first thing you need to look at it is the spec of the wheel.
Can the wheel take the move from a width 205 to 225.
Think with 7.5J / 8J you will be fine.

Re: Tyre size advice
Its its for a polo the oe size is 215/40/17 , 215/45/17 would mean a slightly thicker side wall , depending on the rim width would still work, speedo would be a very small change.

Re: Tyre size advice
Thanks for the advice! Ended up going up to 215/40/17 from 205/40/17 on the same rims. In future if I get new rims I might see what 215/45/17 looks and feels like, but for now pretty happy with my decision.
