2010 Polo - location of ambient temp sensor?

Post by SoftDux-Rudi »

Hi,

I hope someone can help! My wife's 2010 Polo classic (9N)'s aircon doesn't work as well as it should and I noticed the outside temperature doesn't show on the dash anymore. So I'm guessing it's the ambient temperature sensure, but I cannot find it on this car. It's not behind the top gril, or the bottom gril. Behind the small bottom right gril, there's a hole where it could have been, and some wires cut.

The car was in an accident just before this started happening. Both the panel beaters and insurance say the accident on the front left bumper couldn't cause this.... Now the sensor is gone. OR, at least, maybe it's in a weird place on this particular car.

Does anyone know exactly where it should sit, so I can confirm that the panel beater lost it, or something?

P.S. Yes, I did google, and it's not in any of the locations of other VW's.

On the my 9n3 it was located on the left side just under the crash bar. Check around the left grill area. I'm pretty sure mine was attached somewhere near the grill.

It's location is by the bottom left bumper grill which clips into the bumper. It should not affect your Ac.

cannot affect aircon. aircon uses a sensor inside the vents / interior of the car.
But you might have a leak becuase of the mishap.

I second that. Aircon only stop working due to gas leaks.

The aircon is full and tests fine, but it's climatic control and not aircon, which I know doesn't work when those sensors give problems. But your photo confirms my suspicion, the panel beaters left out the sensor. probably lost it or used on another car.

Maybe aircon filter is clogged

I don't think that would make the "outside temperature" show 0, on the dashboard?

Outside temp sensor will show -- if it's either faulty or unplugged and does not depend on AC. A very dirty filter can affect performance. Scan HVAC and see if any codes come up.

I have seen quite a few posts on the internet that the outside temp affect the climatic control. checked and cleaned filters already. HVAC shows no errors.
