Busy with the build. Compression sits at 11.01 to 1

Issues with the dizzy need to buy a 1800 dizzy. I only have a 2l dizzy and gear is to big to go into my 1800 block. Pistons stick out 0.48mm above the block.

Busy cutting the 1800's aux shaft gear and fuel pump loab.

Double check your calculations / measurements (I'm getting a higher calculated value) and beware of the piston to valve clearances. Depending on the make head gasket you are using, you will get a compressed head gasket value around 1,6mm. Then 1,6mm - 0,48mm = 1,12mm approximate clearance between piston crown and flat part on the head. The clearance between piston to valve clearance have not taken into account the stretch margin of the rods on high RPM, cam duration and lift. Are you going to run additives and / or race fuel with a higher octane rating than pump fuel?

I would putty the pistons and dummy assemble and then verify the piston to valve clearances. You are running on a very fine safety margin.

Did the engineering company bore for clearance too. Normally the piston to block clearances is 0.03mm (KS pistons) to 0.07mm (Wossner pistons), but varies from piston manufacturer to piston material expansion properties. In your case, seems that 0,02mm clearance could have been done if block was bored to 83,5mm. Please clarify and confirm before assembling the motor.

Was the clearance taken into account during the block bore? If not you will get the pistons to bite into the block bores and damage pistons and block as soon as motor starts working and reaching operating temperature.

Edit:
Oops, see the pistons are already in the block.

Hi PappaJo

Yes it was bored for clearance, the bores measure in at 83.52mm the Pistons measure at 83.48mm. I am using an Elring Head gasket. And the Cam is 288 Estas that i got from Panic. I will Run 95 plus an Octane booster yes.

The Measurements I took for the CR that is from my engine, pistons head etc are as follows,

Cylinder Bore Size 83.48 (Used the Piston Diameter here as i was not sure on what to use.
Piston Stroke Length 92.8
Head Gasket Bore Diameter 83.5
Compressed Head Gasket Thickness 1.6
Combustion Chamber Volume In CCs 32
Piston Dome Volume In CCs Negative For Dished Pistons -12.6
Enter Piston Deck Clearance Negative If ABOVE Deck -0.48

Calculated Engine Compression Ratio
11.011529374354803:1

All looks fantastic , I just hope your head gasket lasts long , very small gaps between those cylinders but if non turbo all good. ,Panic was totally correct with the cam, 282 cam runs out of balls at 5500 but nice torque, at least now you the fun cam - idling vraap vraap vraap, hope you have many fun with the car when it's running, hoping to see a video maybe :)

Thank you yes non turbo, but static CR is high. Will defenitly post a vid once its running. I need to find a 1800 mp9 dizzy today.

Yes the 288 will go nice with this setup as Panic said.

Will be claying the pistons to check valve clearence on the 288 cam today. It has a bit more lift than the B cam that was in the ADY.

If the deck height of the piston squish pad is under 0.8 mm you are fine.

Motor is built. Now just to install. But have to take the kids to school concert tonight so will have to wait till tomorrow

I have the STD B cam in for now. My SO drives the mk3 most of the time so untill the 1st 1000km is done I will run the STD cam and then on 1000km i will do an oil change and swop the cam out to the 288 estas.

I did turned the motor by hand a couple of times and no issues ImageImageImage

Motor is in. I have done about 300km with it. Still driving miss Daisy slow at this stage. Motor needs to run in. The urge is very strong to gun it now and then but this far i have been able to resist.

Had some lifter noise on day 1. When cold its silent but getting to normal operating temp there was a bit of lifter noise but that is gone now.

I will do an oil change on 1000km. And install the 288 estas. I have also made contact with Domenic to load the Euro PoloGTCup map for me on the MP9 ecu.Image

by the time it has done 300km you could have been at the redline already. All the running happens in the first 30 km and if it has not broken by now you can go for it. C
