Hi Bud do you have a Piggyback or Unichip of some sort?

You can use a 298 cam in your daily, been asked plenty on the forum.
Its all how much you want and can handle, for some guys 276 is too much but others a 288 is still not enough.

I ran a 288 in my 2l 8v and i loved it, if i could go back i would put a 298.
Like fanie asked, do you have a piggy back system, management? if not fueling might be a problem.

But if it was my choice 276 minimum.. 272 is for a 1400

hey bud...

just had my 276 removed from my 2.0l 8v....

it was very nice and smooth, with a slight of beat idol..

but change back to a G-cam...its perfect for everyday use. got loads of torque from right at the bottom and is very very smooth.

only other mods is a gotech Mini-X, and a 57mm exhaust not even a branch. made 83wkw yesterday...

and I went the other way..... bwahahahaahaaaa.... from a 276 to a 288 and am already considering a 298

TBH I would not run anything less than a 276

Acid, it says 2.0 8v

For daily i would go 276 as its a mix between power and fuel consumption. I had a 288 in my car but it drank loads more fuel. Bottom end is also severly affected but that didn't bother me as I do not short shift my car.

Depends what you can live with - I've seen guys pull 276's out of 2.0 engines because they could not handle the lumpiness, I consider a 276 just about stock and grew bored with it in a couple of months...

agree, 276 should be the stock cam on 2.0. on my cti, it was smooth with the 276, no lumpyness

Ok so i guess its then going to be the 276 cam. It sounds great and i can see the excitement with the 276. is it nessesary for head work with the 276 or can i run it as is and will i need a other vernier pulley or must i use standard vernier pulley?

I'm unsure that you know exactly what a vernier pulley is but yes you can use the standard timing pulley that the car comes with.

Sorry for the hijack. But I think this can be relevant information to the OP as well.

Alot of people say that the 276 is a nice smooth cam for a 2.0 8v, what about the 282 cam? How does that compare to the 276 as an everyday cam. Is there a big difference in fuel consumption? (i know it's got alot to do with controlling your right foot) How is the power delivery? Any info will be great. :hi:

I don't think the choice of cam plays that big a factor in consumption, all the variants I had - 276 in 2.0, 288 in 2.0, 298 in 2.0, 298 in 2.1(hydro) and now 300 in 2.1(solid) had basically the same consumption, around 10l/100km, my driving style is pretty consistant but if you are hooning it all the time the consumption will cetainly suffer.

LOL, I think I finally hit the sweet spot in terms of performance with the last one, but that said, I've still got a 316 solid lifter cam in my cupboard...

I've had all sorts of combos on 8V's and 16V's. 276 is the bare minimum on a 2.0, in fact its nice on an 1800 and 288 on a 2.0 is better as its got more low end torque. I've driven 8v and 16v with 288's in traffic, no issues, also didn't notice any consumption differences from 276. If you can't handle a 288 in traffic, you a learner driver.

Thanks alot Christo. This is actually good to know, as my arse is itching for the 282 cam.

perhaps my consumption is related to my management of lack of management. With the 288 on the 276 tune the AFR's were lean around 15 or so, so Stephan had to add more fuel to protect the car from itself.

That in mind though, cruising at 120km/h the car chows the same amount of fuel on all the cams i have (Stock, 268, 276 and 288) the onbly difference is when the car idles in traffic that the 288 used to drink.

Hey Psycho8v I've got a 282 cam in my citi with an ADY motor runs absolutely smooth no jerking no hesitation you can pull off and cruise at 1000rpm with no issues, in terms of power it comes in from around 3800rpm and drops of around 6400rpm I'm still running mp9. Fuel consumption is excellent I get around 13 to 13.5km per lt if I drive nicely lol but if I floor it then it drops to around 11km/lt.

Its a good cam for a 2lt, I recently bought a mk2 with a 2e motor running dictator on that one I will go for either the 288 or 298.

There are very few places that makes a cam for that engine. There are actually very few performance upgrades for that engine.

Lol im so glad someone opened up this can of worms  I too have a cam question as I would like to add one to my 1.4i, I read many of the older posts and from what I can gather for a 1.4i standard motor with just exhaust (branch and 50mm freeflow) and K+N flatbed the options are:

268 - best for daily, bottom end torq focus and least lumpiness.
272 - middle ground with balance of either and some lumpiness.
276 - biggest (reasonably) for 1.4i stock motor with most lumpiness and least bottom end torq.

Then the decent brands (well I think) is estas and ***, estas being the sort after (their website seems down I sent a PM to nellis and waiting on pricing). *** came back with this package which seems decent price wise... http://***.co.za/camshaft-shop-online/3 ... -38-detail

Any advise and thoughts that I should look out for or in going this road? Lifter Set & Vernier Pulley? etc etc
