9n3 Polo GTi Stage 2
Hey gents,
You guys are quite knowledgeable about these things.
Recently I have had STO do my downpipe and full exhaust with phase 2 software.
My car feels awesome and goes like a train on steroids. Only thing is I don't know how fast my car is compared to the next sports car. I've checked out many clips on youtube of stage 2 polos but many have added extras like 4bar frp, custom intakes and the like and they taking out Renault Megane F1 RS'.
Thing is, I would like to know what benefits these mods would have to my vehicle and are they costly to get...?
I don't do street racing but would like to have the peace of mind knowing my car has the power when needed.
Thanks in advance...

Re: 9n3 Polo GTi Stage 2
Hi, I don't know which company you got the software from but I did an FRC stage 2 software upgrade and I had to put a larger FMIC as well as a Forge TIP in order to stop pinging so I'd be careful about booting it in this hot weather!
I would say the TIP definitely helps the breathing at the top end and worth every cent, the FMIC is also a must and allows the software to be a little more lenient on the timing... especially if your map is aggressive...
Two other things to consider are replacing the one-way recirculating dump valve with a stronger one... that helps hold the boost and makes a difference with the smoothness and avoids boost spikes what can be a problem without a larger intercooler... and the other is the turbo actuator... as they get older the internal spring can't cope with the increased boost requirements from the software. I made myself a bracket and attached a shortened clutch spring from Midas which worked like a charm, very smooth power delivery... only problem is it's a MASSIVE BI%CH to try and get to...
With my stage 2 software and mods, DP, TIP, FMIC, DV and water-meth inj my 9nGTi was pushing 156kw atw and 344Nm and getting the hang of the wheelspin was doing decent 14sec ¼miles

Re: 9n3 Polo GTi Stage 2
Hi Tyler,
Thanks for the info. Sweet numbers you running there.
My car standard pushed out 119kw atf and 240nm. So with the mods the tuner (Amien from Evolution Performance, STO software) told me I should be getting +-140kw and +-300nm. He said that there are a few polos that he did with this setup and they all running fine. So I think the boost pressure is not that high to require an intercooler.
The car still has the same fuel economy from when standard so I hardly ever boot the car - PS get 590 - 600kms per tank.
I was contemplating on this motorcade setup, but I'm afraid of heatsoak:
http://motorcade.co.za/index.php?main_p ... cts_id=553
http://motorcade.co.za/index.php?main_p ... cts_id=358
Which TIP are you running and do you have the standard air box with OEM filter?

Re: 9n3 Polo GTi Stage 2
Hello,
Some Tuner's don't 'need' you to have 4Bar FPR.
I was almost at stage2, just needed a DP ...but i removed everything except the 4BAR FPR.
I'm Rather saving up for a FMIC because the heatsoak is getting pretty irritating at the moment.
Stock ----> Stage1 = Biggest performance improvement especially midrange Torque.
Stage1 --> Stage2 = Torque stays about the same with more top end Power/torque.
4Bar fpr = R300 used
Intake = R600 (Good Quality Cone Filter plus bend for inside Airbox)
DP = R2000 (Test's show that a DP doesn't yield a lot if any gain at top end, more low end torque)
TIP = R1500 (This apparently helps with an increased intake diameter to the turbo, also the OEM TIP sucks itself close when increasing the boost.
So you are looking at Over R4k to go from SW only to stage 2.
I'd Rather spend it on a bigger intercooler. ffs heatsoak is a biatch.
EDIT* a "stronger" DV is also needed...over R1k

Re: 9n3 Polo GTi Stage 2
ya its weird how they can do stage two with only DP?
i had to get induction, TIP and DV before i could do Stage one, then had to get stage 1+ file and then stage 2 file and DP to be on stage 2.
all mods from stock cost:
1. Forge DV 007 - R1300
2. Forge TIP - R1600
3. induction - R500
4. Unitronic sw stage 1 - R3500
5. wild cat DP (on special) - R1900
6. Stage 1+ file upgrade - R500
7. Stage 2 file upgrade - R600
All in all +-R10000k

Re: 9n3 Polo GTi Stage 2
im also thinking of REVO2
I have a forge tip, 63mm DP, and REVO1 the cars is still quite strong, I need a Forge DV to hold boost, my IC is holding up better, trying to maximise airflow, vents and if need be remove my right fog altogether.
Need the 4bar FPR for REVO2 and maybe the DV.

Re: 9n3 Polo GTi Stage 2
Ok, so from the information so far I need to get the following to maximize my current phase 2 software:
Aftermarket DV (is this dump valve or diverter valve?)
TIP which would run with a cone filter placed in airbox

The OEM DV seems to be fine - the forge DV holds boost better so would like to get one soon.jk wrote:How's your DV holding up?dees@pgti wrote:I have revo 1 and a few mods - cost so far

Also very undecided on the induction - i've read that the burgy mod does yield good results...how is the flat bed filter with the pd160....did you notice any difference?

I only have stg 1 from revo, other mods in the pipe line, have not dyno'd yet, will chech at the dyno'd day next week.

Any worthwhile fmic besides the Ibiza one.?
Got contact details for flowtech as every1 else quoted 2k for the dp.

Alright so I got word from Ferroli on the following:
Quoted:
"They reckon it is the 008. They are both exactly the same except for the slight difference in the exterior. The prices are as follows:
Intake Pipe: R2050.00
Diverter Valve: R1700.00
Fitment: R275.02"
Looks like I'll have to be digging deeper into my pockets
