X-flow 8V head on ADY block

Post by Wit Ark »

I want to fit the newly accuired X-flow head to my block. Besides water pipes, what else needs changing? Do i use the same head gascet or must i ask for the X-flow one, or are they the same?

There is no oil or water journals that needs modifications for this???

I understand setting up cam timing remains the same as with the U-flow heads.

Contrary to popular myth mongers, fitting an 8V X-flow head will not magically make the motor produce plenty more power.
Yes, the X-flow 8V head does flow more air than the U-flow, but it is marginal, and not a huge amount like some people say.

Easier fitment of ITBs, turbos etc are possible with an X-flow head seeing as there will be much more space behind the head for a turbo and groceries than on a U-flow where the turbo and inlet manifold fight for space. Also with ITBs, they will be nowhere near the hot zorst mani on an X-flow head.

you use the gasket form the non crossflow motor. It's not a straight boltover. You have to weld up one port on the front of the head and drill the front 2 head bolt holes bigger.

Now I remember that the head I got from rob_dbn had one oil drain welded up and the two outer head bolt holes were drilled bigger.

Nope, works like a bomb and still keeps that 8v power band... like everything you do with your car, its application specific

you still say head bolt holes, but your photo is correct
has to be the two holes next to the head bolts they are oil returns and not head bolt holes

The x-flow heaad you want to use come off the mk4 1.6 and 2.l. There are others form the later range of polos but they are roller cam and cambox jobs which you don't get decent performance cams for currently.

The head is a straight bolt on to the ADY 2E AGG blocks no welding needed on the heads.
Only time the oild drain on the hed needs to be welded up is on the older block like the HV HM EV or KR blocks
You will need to use the MK4 2L head gasket witch allows for the larger oil drain port.

Thank you duck.
Reason for my question was I will by swopping my u-flow to x-flow. Turbo setup will follow after that on my caddy.
