DQ200 0AM issues. Again

My Audi is giving me grief again.
Yesterday I left the office and all is fine.
I get down the road and stop at a robot. While stationary i felt the car idling rough, pulled away a stopped at the garage. On idle it had a scraping kind of noise. Decided to goto Audi and ask for someone to have a listen although I was basically told to piss off and make a booking. F.U. Audi East Rand btw.
Wanted to drive to VW and maybe get someone there to just lend me their ears although I never reached them.
Shortly after I left Audi the car started grabbing the clutch and eventually lost drive in 1/3/5/7 gear. MIL indication came on.
So then I could drive in 2/4/6.
Went home did diagnostics:
-Functional restriction due to pressure drop P1895
-Unable to engage gear 3 -or- synchronization gear 3 aborted P074B
-Unable to engage gear 1 / synchronization gear 1 failed P073F


At this point I tried to start the car again and it seemed that the clutch would not release. By the 3rd time the car was able to crank.

Left the car for a couple of hours and decided to move the car into the garage. and magically all the gears worked again. No errors on the TCU. I can still hear noises from the clutch/gearbox while in park and a bit of vibration during idling.

The question is now. Clutch pack or mechanics failure? Personally I think its clutch pack as the errors are now one and that its having the mechanical noises but I'm not convinced.

Was the mechatronics replaced?

Sounds like oil pressure issue maybe, as the oil warms up and expands, could mess around with pressure values perhaps, when cold it work perfectly.

Attempted basic settings but it failed. Mechatronics was replaced on 30000km

What's the mileage now? Mine was replaced at 60 000 and then failed again at 120 000

The fluid that runs through the mechatronic unit in these boxes are in the sealed units up front (with no recommended service intervals). The fluid in question is actually power steering fluid, rest of the box uses normal manual gearbox oil.

The "Functional restriction due to pressure drop P1895" obviously means the mech unit isn't happy with the fluid pressure, there is an inbuilt pump in the mech unit itself, if that's faulty then it still means a mech unit replacement....

My new unit fitted by Audi failed two weeks after fitment, caused by their useless mechanics not flushing the system out properly, so debris from the old unit blocked one of the channels and the car got stuck in second gear.

The replacement cost me R34000 and a month without a car (Audi has no courtesy cars available, because all of their customers cars are broken) unfortunately.

According to the invoices I received, the clutch packs were replaced by Audi at 90 000kms, at a cost of R11000.

So the car has been parked for two days. Decided to check again. Started the car. Perfect, no noises and goes through gears with ease. No errors either.

Drove around for about 10 minutes and slowly the noises appear.

Could any adaptions/settings repair it enough to trade it in?

I believe it will happen again when it’s hot. I cleared the dtc’s when attempting the basic settings. And checked after the drive now and the dtc’s are still clear

I feel your pain bud. Look none of us can accurately diagnose this over the internet, your best option is to get the car to a gearbox specialist (the best one around) for a quote, and take it from there.

If it’s a mechatronic issue, take it back home and park it off while you wait for your warranty to kick. You know the one that you definitely signed up for before anything broke? Wink wink.

Yeah. Well I have approached Audi SA again. They have all the history around the car. If they do not want to help (which will probably be the case) I will send it to Erlermanns for repairs. Then its trade in time.

Give Frans at Vagspeccentre a call, he mentioned he has sent some units for repair without the need for new unit or too much vaseline
