Haldex Service - Help!

Post by ace_the_house_cat »

Hey guys,

I am having a service done on the TTS for the first time since I've got her. Along with the service I am doing a complete fluid change which will include a Haldex service.

Keeping in mind that the drivetrain is identical to the Golf 6R/8P S3 I have a few questions:

1. How much oil do I require for the haldex/differentials?
2. Is there a filter that goes with this?
3. I am buying the rest of the parts and fluids from Goldwagen Delarey, should I be getting it from there?
4. VW Bruma have quoted me R350 per 275ml. Does this sound right?

And one last thing; does anyone know how much (M/T) gearbox oil I'll need (I've found mixed results online)?

Any help would be appreciated.

At what KM is the car. Some has a filter some not so you will have to check with the vin No.
You do know that the rear differential has to come out to do this?. So quite a bit of labour cost involved.
Did you get a quote upfront from the workshop doing it?

There are 2 versions of haldex on those platforms.
Pre 2010 is mostly Gen2 haldex Mk5 R32, 8l s3, prefacelift 8p S3 etc. These systems have no electric pump and react only after the front wheels slip.
Post 2010 is Gen4 haldex Mk6R and facelift 8p s3.
These have an additional electrical pump and accumilator and can react before the front wheels slip.

1. Depends on the haldex version. The early versions came with gen 2 haldex and the 275ml should suffice. Latter versions with gen 4 haldex use alot more oil. 1l IiRC

2. Gen 2 haldex filter can be purchased from an agent. But removal requires a special tool if the diff is still in the car. Otherwise diff out.
Gen 4 filter is not availible from agents but can be imported from ECS tuning. Can be changed easily with the diff installed.

3. What is the rest of the parts you are refering to?

02m should take between 2.5 to 3l of oil.
