(Noob) TSI Hesitation/Slip Help

Post by SlowCoach »

Hello everyone

Total noob here with zero to none experience.

Hope you guys can help steer me to diagnose an issue.

I have a 1.4 TSi jetta (super slow 90 kw with a 7 speed DSG) which is experiencing a jerk/hesitation which causes the rev counter to jump up.

1. This happens from cold start - jerk is not too harsh but can be felt. As engine warms up, jerk becomes less.
2. Intermittently rev counter will not jump up
3. Happens in D, tiptronic and sport
4. No codes logged and no lights on\flashing
5. Occasional jerk when changes from D1 to D2
6. Rarely when issue occurrs a clicking sound can be sound (clicked twice this week) - not sure how to explain but sounded metallic like a solenoid or something
7. Issue occurs on acceleration. Mainly on inclines no matter the gradient. Has occurred on flat surfaces as well.happens more in the odd gears like 3/5/7 occasionally in 4/6 don’t really feel it in 2 may be due to low rpms
8. Issue starts around 1400 rpms
9. Sometimes issue is not felt and car feels smooth
10. Happens on acceleration - removing foot from accelerator pedal or changing gear up or down (via pedal shifts) causes the issue to temporarily stop

What’s been done:
1. Spark plugs at 60k service - didn’t make a difference
2. Clutch packs replaced - no change
3. Vw updated ecu and DSG software couple of times - no luck for fix
4. Logs checked - no faults found
5. Techs don’t feel the hesitation but seen the rev counter jump when I’m driving.
6. A new (single) OEM coilpack has been tried in each cylinder. Long process to test each cylinder on a different day from cold but did not rectify issue

Car is due for 90k service

Will try to get a video of the rpms jumping

Thanks

Not sure if it’s visible here
In D5 may be able to see it jump
Around 1800 rpm
Around 2200 rpm
Around 2800 rpm

Thanks for the feedback. Original submission updated with possible video link
Plan almost expired.
Dealers not convinced anything wrong and will not replace anything if they cannot replicate on their own or no codes thrown

Sounds like they stalling until the plan is expired. If you plan on keeping the car, i'd take out an aftermarket warranty whilst it is under factory warranty.
Then there is unlimited cover on engine and gearbox

Sounds like a slipping clutch. The fact that it happens in the gears that are clustered on the same shaft means to me it has something to do with a single clutch or the valve in the mechatronics for that one.

I'm still doing research, but so far looks like I'll be taking out motorvaps in the new year
