Random Starting Issues on MK4 GTI

Post by Jet Li »

Morning.

Sometimes the golf refuses to start and have to swing a couple of times before it finally does.

Otherwise the car drives well and pulls very strong and it irritates me a lot when it randomly refuses to start. It happens when I park the car overnight or after a day shift.

It had only 1 fault : 16519 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor - Sensor was replaced and error was cleared.

I have scanned the car this morning immediately after it refused to start and found the following errors.

01249 - Fuel Injector for cylinder 1 (N30)
26-10 - output open - intermittent
01250 - Fuel Injector for cylinder 2 (N31)
26-10 - output open - intermittent
01251 - Fuel Injector for cylinder 3 (N32)
26-10 - output open - intermittent
01252 - Fuel Injector for cylinder 4 (N33)
26-10 - output open - intermittent

The car eventually started and when I try to restart it, it does that first kick without any hassle. The problem comes after I leave it for few hours.
Any help or advice will be appreciated. I have replaced the Crank Speed Sensor just to rule it out since there was no error about it.
Thanx

Well it is unlikely that all 4 the injectors are missing or faulty so look at the power supply side for them. If there is a bad connection , iffy fuse or thenrelay thatbruns the pump is not great you'll have all4 the injectors not getting power which will show as an open circuit

Unichip should ñot cut into injectors. They just manipulate the airflow and input signals , not outputs

Oh, no the reason I was asking was a few friends of mine have had unichip issues as Unichip manipulates crank angle sensor signals for timing advance/retard, sometimes they would have to swing for eons to get the car to start, sometimes it would start fine, and it never once threw a G28 error. Once the Unichip was replaced, life could continue

Also, consider replacing the CTS, if you haven't replaced it in a while.
I had a similar problem recently on my A3 1.8T and it only affected cold Starts in the mornings.

I really really really really really hate that word shotening or acronym. There is no such thing as a cts sensor. It is simply called a water or engine temperature sensor. It does not only work when it's cold. It sends the entire range of engine temps.
