2011 scirocco won't start

Post by Nabeelm07 »

Hi guys, I was hoping to get some help...I put a downpipe and software in my car a few months ago...however the cars warning light "catalytic converter error" came on and now the car won't start...is this just a catalytic error or something more serious? Recommendations for a good mechanic who travels would be nice

Much appreciated
Nabeel

it shouldnt come on when the car has software on, thats if the software wrote out the CEL
but that alone will not cause the car to not start

Hi guys, yeah I sent it to a mechanic, found the problem...apparently the golf 6 and scirocco have a common problem one of the timing belts go out and causes engine damage...huge bill to fix

UPDATE: Car is done at the mechanic,as stated earlier in the thread-timing chain issue causing massive engine damage, invoice attached in next post for anybody else who has a 2008-2013 VW MK6 GTI OR SCIROCCO with this issue in future(done privately). If i was aware of this problem and knew it was this common i would have spent the 12K to sort the timing chain out. Does anybody know is the 7 R has any serious issues such as this or close to this ?

Ah 21.7 hours for an engine out head job. Mother trucker. I really need to revise my hours and prices. Seems people are quite happy to pay this kind of thing.

Normally the pistons are replaced as well, from what I've seen. I've always wondered if it was 100% necessary.

You are lucky on this one, I have heard about the 60k repairs for this job. At 50% of that you got a bargain. Panic if you can get sets ready for this you would make a killing. I am sure there is daily failures on this.

Unless I go and buy a head and have it ron conned sitting ready for swop there is not much you can keep ready. Getting thenparts is not the problem. It's whipping the motor out and getting engineering done that normally takes a bit of time.
And to go and buy a headnand getting it done is like an outlay of R20k upfront for me tomsave somebody time?
