GOlf 6 1.4TSI Comfortline Maintenance questions - Help needed

Post by TastyT »

Hi all,

SO I have mainly two problems and will love to hear your inputs or tips..

1.) Every time I brake and get to a stop, I hear a loud/semi loud clunk sound coming from the back.... Some people have said its the brakes, disc can be warped or it can be the pads that are near to its end... What do you guys think or have you had similar problems ?
Also, what is the ballpark cost of replacing pads and discs or only pads and skimming of discs on a Golf 6 ? I haven't had time to get to a brake service center or to VW and I have a VW is going to be very expensive with its labor costs...

2.) I have a quite loud shudder/vibration sound when my clutch is released, when I touch the peddle or open bonnet and pull clutch cable a little bit it goes away and I suspect it is the clutch release bearing.. again, what do you guys think and similar problems? Costs involved ?

Hope you guys can help an fellow VW lover out here :geek:

Still the same issues after all this time? I'd really get round to a brake place the get the brakes checked.

From experience with a similar issue on an opel corsa, the clutch rumble you speak of, is the release bearing. Since the labour cost to get at it was the same as that to change the clutch, I lived with it until the clutch needed changing many km later...

Yeah still sitting with same issues lol - about 15000km later.

Went to the the gearbox specialists and VW specialist in my hometown (Paarl) and the guy told me its the main shaft bearing of the gearbox giving up and making the rattle noise. About minimum 20k repair costs... I left with a tear under my left knee , tried to keep it in and it started running from my eyes to my knees lol.

The brakes have to be changed, discs have to be "skimmed" IIRC - it will either be new discs and then pads or just pads maybe just don't want to "warp" the brakes due to warped discs - causing the discs to get more damaged and the pads to wear out prematurely.

The release bearing issue would only be if the clutch made a noise if the clutch gets used, this sound is when it is standing still with the clutch depressed etc.
