Urrrg, limp/safe mode...
Hi All,
My 1.4 tSI Tiguan with 60'000 km went into limp/safe mode 2 weeks ago (limits the revs to 3000 rpm). I went to a mechanic and he told me he has to replace the throttle body and it would cost about R7'500. He reset the error and I left.
Friday I went to another guy for a second opinion and he found another code, see the image. He suggested I replace the CAT with a mini CAT.
Question 1)
Can this be the same problem with 2 different diagnosis from 2 different guys? Should I get a third opinion? Could anyone suggest someone in the Randburg area?
Question 2)
Where can I find more info on the fault codes (00308 and 08343)? When I search these codes on this forum nothing comes up.

@PoLonY can maybe provide more information on the TB replacement, his wife's 1.4 Tiguan had to have it's TB replaced a little while back. I would suggest getting Morne from Hatfield VW Bryanston to have a look at the car, he should be able to provide a better idea of what the issue is...

Re: Urrrg, limp/safe mode...
Going by instinct alone, and the errors you have, I would say it is the CAT sensor that is the problem. However, I'm no qualified mechanic.
I would definitely get a third opinion from someone else. Try the guys mentioned above already.

Re: Urrrg, limp/safe mode...
It's the throttle body. Wife had same issue as Neuk said. Common issue on the 1.4tsi tiguan. Ours was replaced under warranty and no problem since.
Goes into hard limp mode and can't accelerate etc.

Re: Urrrg, limp/safe mode...
Hello guys.
I just joined after searching for limp mode problems.
I have a 2011 tiguan 1.4 tsi
On overtaking I geared down just to find that the turbo has kicked out leaving me with no power.
I then have to switch the car off and back on to reset.
I had it at vw on diagnostics but couldn't find fault.
It happens now and then....mostly open road ??
Would that be throttle body related ??

Re: Urrrg, limp/safe mode...
Mine gave a fault light every time after a reset.
Limp mode could be triggered by anything.

Hi Allen,
Like Bmw.wp and PoLonY and myself said in the thread above. Our problem was the throttle body. But there are many things that can cause it...
Good luck
