Re: Polo GTI 1.8T Smokes On Idle When Cold
I collectively know of around 10 1.8T's that have Valve Stem Seal issues, they all smoke in traffic, and on pull off after idling for a few seconds etc.

If valve stem seals are worn the car would smoke on start up. I don't have this symptom. If it were rings it would smoke all the time.

Re: Polo GTI 1.8T Smokes On Idle When Cold
So I changed the PCV and cleaned out the intake.
Car still smokes on idle (when hot)
Stupid thing looks like it needs new valve stem seals

Try this.... drain all the coolant...fill up with water....let it idle a little. ..then drain a few litres of the water and add coolant...and see if it's still doing the same thingJasonCPT wrote:Luckily they're cheap, not sure about labour though.Silver Srfer wrote:So I changed the PCV and cleaned out the intake.

90% of the time it could be the turbo seals, have you noticed a drop in oil levels?
Also the pcv sits under the intake manifold near the oil cooler and the prv sits on the tip

did you change the pcv or the prv? the prv is the one thats on your tip....better known as the hockey puck....the pcv sits under the intake manifold it sits in a T piece lots of people get confused just double check...or change both of them for a piece of mind
