Same here, unless a filter is seriously clogged.

Re: Golf 4 GTI-R wont rev past 5500 RPM
We did check the fuel pump and the filters. We also checked the fuel pressure. What we are doing today is to put a gauge on the fuel lines in order to see if the pressure drops during the drive.

You have to put a gauge to check the actual pressure... remember to boost ......(my pressure dropped when i boosted)
connect one pipe to the fuel outlet in the engine bay, join it to a t-piece with the other side connected to the fuel rail. connect the gauge to remaining outlet.....place under on the rear of the bonnet on the windscreen....
this worked for me....

Have you cleaned out the intercooler after previous turbo replacement, if there was signs of oil in boost pipes going to intercooler?

Re: Golf 4 GTI-R wont rev past 5500 RPM
Hi Guys,
Again, I would like to thank you for all the assistance.
The car is finally fixed and is going like a bomb again......
So...for the fix....
The alternator was over charging thus causing the ECU to somehow not register the fault.
Even after changing the ECU and re-coding the car, the problem still existed.
As Murphy would have it, it was overcharging by 0.5V, and the ecu did not register it, as on the logs as soon as the overcharge was supposed to register, the logs all zero'ed out lol.....
We replaced the alternator, re-coded and mapped another ECU and now the car is 100%
Most of all, thank porno_ster...!! You set me in the right direction.
For those of us that are pessimistic, now I have a new turbo, alternator, ecu, maf sensor, crank sensor etc...
Just short of new engine...LOL!!!
Thanks again....

If you can install a temporary boost gauge to check your boost.
Check for leaking boost fittings. Any whistle sounds under boost.
Have you had plugs and fuel filter checked? Is your car pulling strong on lower revs and then just does not want to go further.
Have you checked the loud pedal? DBW pick accelorator input from here and it has a variable resistor switch / slide wire and this might be offset. Should pick this up on diagnostic log. Is idling low or where it should be?

check the fuel system and ignition system they contribute a lot in power and rpm @ Maseru Lesotho
